ryoder 1,590 #1 September 22, 2015 In discussions of what a bomb looks like, I found a link to this story, which is fascinating. It is most likely forgotten because no one was injured in the blast. But the technical sophistication of the device is fascinating! http://www.damninteresting.com/the-zero-armed-bandit/"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. kawisixer01 0 #5 September 22, 2015 I stayed there a couple of years ago and learned about the story from a friend that worked there. I was amazed when I stayed there that there wasn't any kind of rememberance of the event anywhere in the building.
wolfriverjoe 1,523 #6 September 24, 2015 Thanks for posting that. I knew some of the story, and a bit about the bomb, but not to that level of detail. Amazing how well he thought out the bomb, and how poorly he thought out the money delivery plan. Even if the pilot hadn't misread the (poorly written) directions, he never would have gotten away. The FBI is pretty good at catching extortionists at the money drop. They don't play fair and follow the directions. The number of times anyone has gotten away with any real quantity of cash is very, very low. DB Cooper is one. Also the only completed air piracy in the US. The bomb was pretty cool. No way in, no way to disable, no way to nothing. It was going to go off. BUT... It wasn't a "real" bomb. No wires, no big digital clock counting down, none of that. It would have just been workplace violence.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
