DexterBase 1 #1 September 23, 2004 I have some Mighty Mak canopies and I am wondering if any of you old timers can bring me up to speed on these canopies. Pretty much all I know is that they're 335's and have 9 cells. I want to know more about them so any information would be super! B.A.S.E.!!! (<--- Not using the Mighty Mak for B.A.S.E. I'm just really amped up from a recent B.A.S.E. jump.)

airtwardo 7 #6 September 24, 2004 First they were the tandem main... then "Bill M." busted a leg, so they were just the reserves... 'then bigger is better' took hold on everything! I too have several, they are great demo canopies... slow and accurate... and can carry lots of extra weight, Flags..ect. Not real fast in the air & they handle like a clown shoe. A simple 'flat pack' works great. I tossed the 'D' bag on one of mine and installed a rapier, so I could get the monster into a smaller container. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
DexterBase 1 #7 September 25, 2004 Right on guys, that was exactly the kind of information I needed. You dudes are too cool. Again, ThanX
usskydiver 0 #8 September 25, 2004 If you're referring to Bill Matthews I want to add a comment (not to be confused with a personal attack which is against the rules, and understandably so). That guy did more to hinder the progress of military freefall than any human could have! I have friends who were hurt conducting combat MFF jumps into Afghanistan because "bigger is better" ruled and not "hey, let's looks at this new design in the sport market and adapt it to MFF." If I offended anyone, get over it. The facts remain the same. Rant over. Tim T.
airtwardo 7 #9 September 25, 2004 Quote If you're referring to Bill Matthews *** No.. Bill Morissey...one of the patent holders for the origional tandem systems, working with Ted Strong at the time. Broke a steering line as I remember...at a HUGE demo, and elected not to chop it... the day after he growled at me for not cutting away from a broken steering line on my 252... "So basicly, you landed a malfunction" he skoffed. Ted's 'ex' was the passenger...and to his credit, Bill took the whole hit himself. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
riggerrob 643 #10 September 25, 2004 Yes, Bill Morrissey told me that he landed that malfunction during an airshow at the annual Oshkosh Fly-In. For the unwashed, the Oshkosh Fly-In is the largest collection of aerobatic, antique, designers, innovators, homebuilders, ultralight, warbird, etc. afficianados in the USA, er planet. The Fly-In occurs every summer in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, usually the week before the big boogie in Ratoul. Oshkosh is mecca for sport pilots.
