The Star in the center makes it a. sergeant major . Correct. E-9 Good eye
Oak leaves around the star make a command Sgt major. My dad retired as a E-9 they offered him command sgt major. he decided 0 increase in pay to give up his desktop. to become as he said" top sergeant over a whole battalion of knuckleheads" he decided the oak leaves was not worth it
i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am .

I was USAF and an NCO but before I went to spend my 3 weeks in the Army to learn the ARMY way of throwing my body out of a USAF plane... I studied up on what all those little yellow stripes signified. I felt that not knowing the correct way of addressing someone with a bunch of those on their arm might be detrimental to my ability to keep up with the amount of pushups I might need to do

Well I was a squid. So i don't remember the ranks of other branches that I was taught and tested on in boot camp. I googled it and the one i came up with said first sergeant. I stand corrected. And yes I should know the other branches better. But I know the Navy ranks perfect.

My uniform for two years could have really twisted your brain around.then.... Check out the instructors uniforms here in this.. from 1970.... 4 years later they were just the same when I got there and see if you recognize anything.
I had fun while there... using officers to troll for sharks in Biscayne Bay was hella fun... ;)

I couldn't make out the ranks of the enlisted in any of that.

I couldn't tell if they were tech sgts or staph sgts.:)

I didn't see any top chevrons. I think I saw some senior airmen though.

The sailors were not wearing their covers so, I didn't see them as sailors.

Isn't that where they pound them into your chest?
Eeeeekkkk!!

Chests like that don't get pounded... They get caressed. ;)

'sides, I think they did away with the formal "Blood Wings" ceremony some time ago. [:/]
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
