Do you Voodoo? Tell me about your rig!

Recommended Posts

Tell me about your rig, how do you like it? I know the Voodoo offers good pin and riser protection, and it's supposed to be major comfy. So, tell me how you like it. I'm looking for a bulletproof comfy rig, and I think this might be it. All opinions welcomed. I'm also thinking about the pull-out instead of boc, other than the obvious pros/cons, any thoughts on that?

thx!
Angela.

I have a Voodoo, and have had a few gripes but nothing major, and nothing Sandy wasn't willing to fix for me. Currently he is setting my Voodoo up for left side deployment since having surgery...

He (and Brenda) have always accomidated me easily and with the friendlist service when ever something went wrong or was troubling me.

If I were to get another rig it would either be another Voodoo or an infiinity...

As long as you stick with that rig, and don't have a second rig with a BOC, and you don't borrow other people's rigs, that shouldn't be a big deal. The problems happen when you switch between deployment systems regularly; eventually you'll forget which one you have.

I think that the small Voodos look great, but the larger ones (V3 and V4) just look odd. Something about that form factor doesn't work with larger canopies. That may not be an issue for you, though, if you're going to stick with 135 sqft or smaller canopies.

I use a Talon FS currently, which has the same harness as the Voodoo, and it is very comfortable and forgiving even though the size of the demo container is not quite perfect. I haven't bought my own rig yet but am leaning towards either a Voodoo or a Mirage.

Why would you want a pull-out anyway? I don't think I know anyone who uses one. Just curious that's all.

I don't intend to borrow anyone elses rig, so I suppose that is a non-issue on the pullout. I like the fact that it would avoid a pc in tow, and I think they look a little sleeker:)

I would be getting a small container, so the fact that the larger ones may look funny is not an issue here. My boyfriend has a larger one that fits the pd143 reserve, i'd assumed the smaller ones wouldn't differ too greatly, but it'd be nice if someone had a pic wearing a V0.

It's good to know the service is good. I'd hate to have a problem getting something adjusted if it didn't fit right upon arrival.

What gripes did you have, if you don't mind my asking (you can pm if you'd like). Also, I know that over the years they've made changes to these rigs (riser flaps, etc), when did you get yours? Any changes in mfg since then on the things you didn't like?

thx!

Pull-out doesn't prevent PC-in-tow, but it'll help a little with almost eliminating horse-shoe mals involving the container itself.;)

Don't like the way the harness fits much, and the larger sizes have some wierd geometry. Solid buitd however. I don't like the pullout design for the Voodoo specificaly, and I am a pullout jumper (2500 jumps on them)

The last pullout one I saw used a small tube shaped pud, with about a 1/2" wide by 4" long velcro secure. Funny feeling and due to the shape of the rig it was placed at a funny angle for my tastes.

I thing the Mirage pullout design is the best all around right now, and I like my Infinity pullout design as well. Both have a nice large pud to grab on to at a very "natural feeling" angle.

As for fugly? Dues, there is a pussy on the back of every Voodoo.....:D Seriously, It's all about personal taste at that point. I'm not a big fan of the Voodoo's looks.

Just out of curiosity, how is your shoulder after 2500 jumps on a pull-out?

Just fine! Unlike a former employer, and Nor Cal DZO, I never got "pullout shoulder". I throw it vigorously away from my body like a throw out, and do not hang on to it til it's ripped out of my hand. Besides if you suffer from that type of injury there is a simple solution. Turn the P/C around.

Not saying pull out is better, or right for everyone. It works REALLY well for me.

I had one for about 1000 jumps. Every once in a while, it would just tweak me the wrong way. And, yes I was flickin' it. No damage, but I have a lovely bumpy sack that now resides on my shoulder. It's really sexy. I'll show it to you next time your up...

....for the Byron Boogie maybe?

I have a big Voodoo.. I don't think it is ugly but that is all personal taste. Mine also does not have a pussy on the back. It has a dragonfly. I've got about 700 jumps on it and nothing has ever opened that wasn't supposed to.. It is very comfortable and easy to pack. I just had my first repair done on Sunday.. One of the elastic keepers on the riser was shot so I got new keepers sewn on. It has been a great rig.

OMG, that's horrible!! maybe this isn't for me, I don't want bodily deformations caused by my deployment system! :o

Do you have a picture? I'm curious what you mean about this dragonfly thing... not that I don't like the original "pussy" design. I don't think in purple, white, and black that it could really look pussy-ish, but hey, whaddo I know. All in all, I think it's a neat looking rig... to each her/his own, tho.

When I worked at Rigging Innovations, pull-outs on represented 5% of production.
I currently have a Voodoo in my shop for pull-out to throw-out conversion. Both owners have had too many reserve rides that they blame on pull-out.
