Guest #1 June 3, 2016 Hello, There are a couple of commercial operations in Europe with military-style static-line jumping programs using military gear, not sport rigs. The two of which I know of at present are in Austria and the Czech Republic. The one in Austria has an Mi-8 and an AN-2. As for the parachutes: "...MC-1D and SF-10A. Parachutes of type T-10R / MIRPS are used." The one in Czech has an AN-2. I don't know what kind of rigs are in use there. Has anyone tried this, and if so, can they relate the experience? I'm seriously thinking about signing up for one of these just for kicks, but I would like to know which I should perhaps go for...I'm in Italy so it's convenient either way, or perhaps there are others...thanks! mh ps - to the critics: Don't pooh-pooh jumping a round canopy via static line if you haven't tried it - it's a totally different experience, and is worthy of your time, at least once. So says this skydiver with zero military parachute experience, but one sport jump under a round canopy via static line, which I made after at least 100 square jumps. ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." HUPRA 0 #2 June 3, 2016 I've done a few static line round jumps with the military; they are definitely different to sports freefall jumps. Having done them I wouldn't pay to do more, though I could understand paying once for novelty value. For added realism aim to land in trees..... There is a group based in the UK that does them; the guy who runs it, Roy, is an ex-Para. http://www.pathfindergroupuk.com

A friend of mine did the "Bridge Too Far" jump with them on the 60th Anniversary of Operation Market Garden and also D-Day (IIRC). He's the one who told me that Pathfinder Group will not accept those who are not prior airborne. Perhaps he was misinformed? Anyway... mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
shorehambeach 9 #4 June 3, 2016 Mark Skydive Teuge in Holland/Netherlands have the courses running - I think it's called the Pathfinders Course. I have seen them teach the course - looks great if you like that type of jumping. They had hundreds of wuffos learning for the commemorative jump at Normandy. Let us know how you get on ! councilman24 37 #5 June 4, 2016 Buy an old Phantom 28, put it on 3 ring risers, in a dbag and add a throw out pilot chute and out it in your own rig. Then you can make as many as you want. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

I'm pretty sure they will take civvies with no prior military service.
Guest #7 June 13, 2016 I'll probably go with the outfit in Austria because Pathfinders UK appear to have way too many restrictions for my liking. It's also closer and cheaper to get to than the UK mh . "The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
