kelel01 1 #1 September 9, 2004 Ok, I searched, and I didn't find anything, so if it's here somewhere, I apologize. I need to get the legs of my jumpsuit taken in a couple of inches. I have a Freak'n Suit, and from what I understand, they've shut down for a little while since the hurricanes. First, is that true? Second, if it is, is it possible for me to get the alterations done elsewhere? I don't mind paying for it, if it means it'll be done soon. Can I go to an alterations place and tell them to make sure they stitch it as it was before, for strength purposes? Thanks! Kelly
tigra 0 #2 September 9, 2004 A rigger *might* be able to do it- I had a rigger fix my toe loops since I needed them done right away. A regular tailor/ seamstress may not understand that the thread and stitching need to be stronger than what they are used to, but might do a better job measuring and sewing. I know at least one jumpsuit manufacturer that will repair just about anything for a reasonable price and that includes suits made by her "competition". (She fixed the zipper on a cat carrier for me, too!)
riggerrob 643 #3 September 9, 2004 Sure, any local seamstress/tailor can modify/repair a jumpsuit, the trick is convincing them to use 69/E nylon thread.
masterrig 1 #4 September 9, 2004 Most seamstresses or even good dry cleaner/laundry can make the alteration. More than likely... same day. Any that I have ever dealt with have an industrial machine. Chuck
kelel01 1 #5 September 9, 2004 Thanks! Maybe I'll check the alterations place nearby and see if they have the 69E nylon thread. If not, tigra, I'll get that person from you who alters "the competition's" suits at a reasonable price. Thanks again!! Kelly
darkwing 5 #6 September 10, 2004 This is usually a very easy alteration. It should be done such that the alteration can easily be undone merely by picking out the stitches. Just turn the pants inside out and sew a row down a convenient part of the leg, and voila, no cutting or anything. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
masterrig 1 #7 September 10, 2004 More than likely, the material in your jumpsuit is Polyester/cotton-Poly blend, heavy duty (Size-69) Polyester thread works fine also. It is quite strong and more resistant to UV. I do a lot of jumpsuit repairs and having all Nylon threads, I use that, rather than loading-up on Polyester threads. Good luck to you.
