kitcat 0 #1 September 8, 2004 I am relatively new to the sport but love everything about it!! So I was wondering how you become a rigger/master rigger? Can I start while still on student status? blue skies
AggieDave 6 #2 September 8, 2004 Generally speaking, people talk to their local rigger and learn under him/her. You need 20 reserve packjobs under supervision as well as quite a bit of other training and knowledge to pass the FAA's test, so "directed learning" is a good way to start. There are some courses that give you everything you need, but generally speaking most folks learn from another rigger. Dan Poynter's manuals are basically required reading as well.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

rushmc 23 #5 September 8, 2004 Courses to become a rigger will be coming up this winter and early spring. You can go to these classes that are usually about 10 days long, do all your pack jobs, that the written and oral tests and leave with a temp. certificate and seal number. Watch the classifieds for the adds. I know the one near Kansasa city is just after the PIA convention in Feb. next year"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." riggerrob 643 #7 September 8, 2004 Quotehow much is this course? *is interested* I've heard they're a couple G's >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The CSPA Rigger A Course planned for 8-12 November 2004 (in Niagara, Ontario) will cost CAN$400, with students providing their own books and tools. FAA Senior Rigger Coruses range from US$900 (Dave DeWolf in Pennsylvania, Tom Dolphin, what's-his-name in Ottawa, IL, etc.) to about US$2,000 (American School of Parachute Rigging in Eloy, AZ). Even Handsom Dave encourages students to do most of their 20 supervised repacks BEFORE attending his course. Dave Also encourages students to sew a few practice patches and read through Poynter's Manuals. One week is simply too short a time to absorb all the information that a new rigger needs.
