I tried to shoo him off the path, but he just ignored me. So I reached down a gave him a poke. Holy shit, he got mad! He coiled up in a flash, hissing like hell. Non-invasive species, leave them alone or relocate if they are a danger to your kids or pets. Non-native invasive species, treat with extreme prejudice, ESPECIALLY the pythons in the Everglades. Blame the assholes who bought them as babies then dumped them in the swamps when they got too big. Then they start breeding and laying eggs. They're out of control. Wild boars/pigs are equally as destructive. TampaPete 53 #35 May 18, 2017 It’s also a little personal with me. An 8-ft boa was captured 5 feet from my garage right next to where my kids play. My daughters were 3 & 5 at the time. Perfect snack size.The snake was a lost pet named Pedro. He had been lost for two weeks and was three blocks from his keeper’s house. I was out of town when it happened otherwise...whack ‘em. Second, I highly doubt that an 8 foot snake could eat a kid, even as small as a 3 year old. Stories are out there about snakes killing kids, but the snakes are a lot bigger (15 foot or more). What's the difference, when it comes to Kill or bee killed? Yes, most snakes will not be a problem if left alone. They will slither away if they can, but if I uncover a nest of copperheads while moving the trash cans, they generally will lash out and so will I. Or if I disturb a Black snake 6-7footer while picking blackberries, it's likely to chase me back up the hill, so don't tell me that the internet hype about snake aggressiveness is BS. I've seen it first hand, and I've also had a cat bitten by a rattler. She survived and cost a fortune. Unfortunately, most snakes people encounter are of the "too close to me and now we are both in survival mode" kind so: Wack, Wack, Wack! It was destroyed in Hurricane Andrew and released a lot of really nasty critters that they used to milk venom from to make antivenin. I worry less about running across a Python than I do a cobra or a Fer De Lance.
