GentleTiger 0 #1 August 29, 2004 Today my canopy (a Nav 260) opened and stayed in front of my face...when I released the brakes and pulled, it reluctantly came back above my head...what causes this? GentleTiger 0 #3 August 29, 2004 I don't think so...when I pulled I was stable...what are your thought? Tiger________________________________________ Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! quade 4 #4 August 29, 2004 I can not even imagine the situation you're talking about. Do you mean that you deployed and were sitting in your harness normally, head up, feet down and your canopy was between your face and the horizon? How would that even be possible?quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

quade 4 #6 August 29, 2004 Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that what you thought was happening, wasn't really what was happening. My -guess- is that you probably didn't have one of your brakes stowed properly and as a result, you ended up deploying in a turn. Pulling on both toggles unstowed the correctly set brake and returned you to normal flight. I simply can not imagine -any- other way for what you have described to have happened. Video would have told the tale, but I assume you have none.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
JonBonGraham 0 #7 September 1, 2004 A brake fire on a canopy that size wouldn't cause such a drastic situation - on a Fury 220 if you just release one of the brakes and sit there with one all the way up and one stowed all that happens is you go into a very slow, gentle turn - nothing LIKE having your canopy in your face! I was wondering though - how long was it in front of you before you grabbed the toggles? We have a sabre 210 at the centre and the left side seems to like inflating much quicker than the cells on the right, which causes a pretty harsh turn on opening, but only for a second or two... ???
