Fab 0 #1 August 27, 2004 Hello, I'm thinking about buying a used rig at a great price. The rig was made for someone who is 1.73m and 76 kg. I'm however 1.89 and 83 kg. Is there any chance this rig will fit me properly or shouldn't I even think about it twice? I'm not in the position to just try the rig out as I saw it on the internet (not in my country). Thanks for the advice _______________________________________
BBKid 0 #2 August 27, 2004 To be honest, I wouldn't even think about it. Unless the rig was made way too big for this person, it's not going to fit you. If it's an incredible deal, and you have competent master riggers in your area, you might be able to have the harness rebuilt, but it might have to go back to the manufacturer - I'm not sure. Since it's in another country, I wouldn't bother - it's too much hard work. Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!" GravityGirl 0 #3 August 27, 2004 Instead of comparing your body to his, compare your body to the rig. See if you can get the MLW (Main Lift Web Measurement), the Yoke Measurement and the Leg Pads. Is it articulated? Then measure yourself based on that particular manufacturers measuring guide. Then PM me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! skybytch 273 #4 August 27, 2004 What is your inseam measurement (crotch to floor, no shoes)? Can you find out the harness size on the container? You'll have to convert from cm to inches, but you can determine what size MLW (main lift web) on the harness should fit you using this formula - height (in inches) minus inseam (in inches) minus 20 = main lift web length. Example - I'm 68 inches tall and have a 33 inch inseam; 68 minus 33 minus 20 = 15 so I should fit in a harness with a 15" MLW. Note that this formula does not take into account legstrap or lateral lengths, and it's not 100% accurate for all harness/container systems.
riggerrob 643 #5 August 28, 2004 It is difficult to measure harness fit long distance. Try asking your local rigger/gear dealer to measure you and fill out an order form (like you were ordering a new harness). FAX the order form to the original manufacturer, along with the serial number of the used rig you are thinking about buying, and a letter explaining why. The factory should be able to tell you how close the used harness is to your size. They will also tell you how much it will cost to have the factory re-size the harness to fit you exactly.
