bch7773 0 #1 August 25, 2004 ok, question for those knowledgable about cypres... if my rig was repacked in late june, and the cypres was due in june for its 4 year, how late can i jump the rig and it still be considered "in date"? because the cypres has that 3 month +/- window to do the 4 year maintance... does this mean i can jump it in september, since its 3 months: july, august, september =3 months? so it would be considered UNairworthy in october correct? or do i have it wrong here? the only thing i am certain about is that it was ok to jump it in july and august, since i called up cypres and asked them. After 30 Sep your rig is illegal to jump due to the CYPRES being out of date. Your rigger should not have packed it in Jun knowing it was due IMO. Tim T. usskydiver 0 #4 August 25, 2004 JP, You have a valid point but if it comes down to the letter of the law there would be a problem in that the rigger is, in essence, certifying the entire system for 120 days. IF the rigger annotated an earlier expiration (due to the CYPRES), he/she would be covered IMO. I'm not an FAA guy but am just using a common sence thought process. Tim T. Reason i ask is because im going to a boogie in september, and want to make sure they don't try to keep me out because of this. Call the boogie host in advance an let them know your specific (and exact) situation. The only way to know if the organizer of the event will allow you to jump is to ask the organizer. Dropzone.com can offer answers from various riggers, but they can't grant you permission to jump at any specific event. MrHixxx 0 #7 August 25, 2004 It is pretty simple. The battery is good to the end of the month 2 years from installation. The maintenance is due +or-90 days from the mfg. date. If either of these is going to expire within the pack cycle, it either needs to be packed without it or taken care of. Since it is an FAR to maintain them, to jump without it in date hangs the pilot's ass and the rigger's ass out in the wind for the FAA to kick it.
