Newbie 0 #1 August 11, 2004 please excuse the crudity of my drawing, i can't use Paint very well. Why do we not have a cutaway/reserve pillow with a contoured "pistol" type grip (not as extreme as in my pic, but you get the idea), complete with a hole near the top to insert our thumb for extra leverage? The hole doesn't have to be used (obviously, as handles don't use that design currently and work well enough) but if you could loop a thumb in, it would provide greater leverage. The only down side is i guess if you wanted to drop the handle quickly for whatever reason, it might be looped onto your thumb if you have on big gloves or something. You might also risk having someone else stick their finger through and pull, so perhaps the hole could only be used on reserve pillows? Anyway just a thought. yoink 321 #2 August 11, 2004 If it ain't broke.... I think if we're worried about hard cutaways, large rings will solve that... It might also take more time to loop your thumb through a small hole, and freeflyers don't like big holes cos of accidental depolyment risks... my $0.

darkwing 5 #5 August 11, 2004 It is an interesting notion. I'd like to think that easier to grip (and to distinguish from other things) does not necessarily mean easier to snag. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

FrogNog 1 #8 August 11, 2004 QuoteI think if we're worried about hard cutaways, large rings will solve that... ... and regular 3-ring release system maintenance, and modern cutaway cable main housings, and (for those who fear hard cuataways due to line twists to the risers) riser inserts. Plus proper assembly of all of these. Lots of ways to help reduce cutaway force. I wouldn't mind if my cutaway handle had a different texture or something, though. -=-=-=-=- Pull. cvfd1399 0 #9 August 11, 2004 Yea like that textured stickers that you put on steps for grip. Or even the rubber hogue pistol grip material. That stuff is pretty grippy I am sure that the agressive stuff would eat at your rig overtime like velcro tho.

Staso 0 #11 August 12, 2004 QuoteReally does that make you feel safe? I'll be scare that thing gets caugh on something many people have d-ring for their reserves and are not that concerned about it getting caught on something. accidentally pulled cutaway is not as bad as reserve. so why do we have some many d-ring reserve handles ? in other words if i don't mind d-ring for my reserve, why should i mind it for my cutaway ? i opeted for better grip and quicker punch. on my mal i had i spent too much time trying to pull cutaway without peeling while spinning. now my emergency procedures are extremely simple. pillow for cutaway was intended to provide different feel and make come in handy if someone have few jumps. at this point i'm pretty sure i will try to pull right first, so there is no strong need for different feel. and also, majoriy of my jumps are speed skydiving jumps, so there is nobody around me in the air for 98% :) stan -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... That step/grippy/sticker stuff would chew a hole in your jumpsuit under each handle within a handfull of jumps though. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
