Sending new canopy back.

Recommended Posts

I am having problems with my brand new Sabre2 170. It will not fly straight. I have had a rigger look at it and jump it. He can't find anything wrong with it so its back to PD it goes. How long do you think it will take to get my new baby back? Its only been two days and I already miss her dearly. They said if its longer than two weeks they would send me a demo. I would like to hear peoples experiences with sending new canopies back for repair. How long, was it correct when it returned, etc....I know PD has good customer support. Hopefully this will be resolved in a few weeks.

My experince with PD would lead me to believe your problem will be fixed in about two weeks. They'll inspect and jump your canopy to find the cause of the problem. If they can duplicate the problem, they will try to fix it in less than two weeks. If it takes longer, they will send you a demo to use. If they cannot find the cause and repair it, they will give you an option on a new canopy. That may take several more weeks, but you will have the use of the demo until it arrives.

A number of years ago I bought a new Spectre 150 off the shelf at Square 1...

I got it hoked up and made about 4 jumps on it and it always turned left. Not radical but enough to notice because you had to counter it with a toggle.

Rusty Vest was on the DZ and I told him about the problem and he said it was probably a harness turn or my legstraps weren't tight enough. SO I told him to go jump it... he did and as son as he got down he said... "yup... it's got a turn... send it in." So I did and I got it back in about a week and a half... no problems after that.

PD is really good about getting canopies back in a pretty good timeframe I think...

Sooner you ship it off... the sooner you'll get it back ;)

I can't speak for PD, but we did experience a situation similar to yours with my wife's Cobalt...

The canopy had a built-in turn that no one could figure out. The lines were correct and even the measurements on the fabric seemed OK, but for some reason, it still turned. Riggers and test jumpers could not figure it out. Anyway, Atair took care of all the shipping charges for sending it off to an independent test jumper and to them. They sent a demo canopy for her to jump during the entire process and handled the shipping charges for that as well. They ended up having to make a new canopy, but hooked us up through the entire process to make sure my wife still had a canopy to jump.

Bottom line - the time it takes depends on what they'll have to do, but I'd expect a demo while you wait.
