Stumpy 284 #1 July 19, 2004 Here's the problem: Brand new neptune out of the box, new battery, did the setup stuff (logs etc) got on the plane. Took it out of my lid once we had cleared 1000ft to see the aircraft mode and it wasn't registering anything at all - it didn't beep as we went through 1000 on the way up (is it supposed to?) and the audible didn't go off on the way down - and it didn't register a jump in the log at all. I am going to phone my dealer tomorrow but i was just wondering if there was something i needed to turn off/on that i might have missed? Oh, and the display was just showing "ground mode" the whole time. Software version is 2.1.3 Any help greatly appreciated (otherwise it's getting swapped for a protrack )Never try to eat more than you can lift
cvfd1399 0 #2 July 19, 2004 Sometimes I notice if I am climbing real slow 400fpm or less. It will not switch to "plane mode" The altimeter is climbing, but the rate of ascent is not fast enough to kick it into the mode. What altitude did you exit? What type of jump. I have done a 3 way that funneled, and I must have been above a jumper and in his burble b/c the logging did not kick in until 2k had passed. Maybe if it was a hop n pop in a slow plane it never knew it was going up, and you opened up your canopy so fast it never knew it was jumping? I have a neptune field rep comming to the dz this weekend to give mine a check up. Ask around your dz I never knew we had one until I posted a problem here. DBCOOPER 5 #3 July 19, 2004 I'd check wit Alti-2.They would know of any settings that would lock it out of functioning.Maybe demo mode?Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea. crzjp20 0 #5 July 19, 2004 if you dont arm the log and audable it will not do it. As for airplane mode it depends how fast you are climbing-------------------------------------------------- Fear is not a confession of weakness, it is an oportunity for courage. SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 July 19, 2004 Correct. Also, if it stays in ground mode while you are climbing, and that bothers you, simply hit the "alt" button on bottom and it will show you big numbers. Hitting "exit" will put it straight into airplane mode if the plane is climbing at all. The unit will not operate as an audible unless you enable that option. Opie 0 #7 July 19, 2004 I opened up a brand new neptune on Sunday, installed the batt., the wristband, set the date and took it up for a jump. It stayed at zero the entire time on the plane and on the jump The gear store where bought it (paraconcepts at SDC) switched it out for another new one and no troubles the rest of the day. I have another neptune I've been using since last fall and had the screen freeze up on me a couple of weeks ago for a few hours. I found the battery had been leaking a little and have replaced it. I'm hoping that is all that was wrong or maybe just some software problems they still need to sort out because overall I really like mine.
atsaubrey 0 #8 July 19, 2004 I havent had any problems with mine except living in cali it sometimes kicks into climb mood when I travel on the freeways up big hills and will lock in on that. I have to then set into "im on DZ". My only other issue was it lost all my jumps in the logs this weekend. So I guess me saying not having problems wasnt a true statement."GOT LEAD?" Stumpy 284 #9 July 19, 2004 Mine did the same as opie's - just read 0.0 all the way up, and it was a solo sitfly jump, out of a fast climbing plane from 13k, so nothing there that should have stopped it working. The audible feature was enabled as well. In the meantime however Lara from alti-2 has PM'd me, so loads of thanks to her for that and i am going to try and sort the problem out. Cheers for all your suggestions everyone.Never try to eat more than you can lift
AggieDave 6 #10 July 19, 2004 She e-mailed me in response to a post on DZ.com a while back as well... Its very cool to know that a gear manufacture is monitoring and being active to resolve issues.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Stumpy 284 #11 July 19, 2004 definitely - it does make a difference, a particular container manufacturer got my business partly because of that!!!Never try to eat more than you can lift
