vladavr 0 #1 July 18, 2004 This is the second time my ProDytter's second alarm that I set at 2.5 goes off under canopy. Both times the canopy was fully opened when it went off, slider stowed.... Does anyone here has this happened? Would you still trust the little mfkr? P.S. Oh-yeah, I contacted manufacturer after the first time, they said it was fine, could be some turbulence (I don't know, what kind of turbulence could set an audible off without any effect on the canopy ). Anyone?
diablopilot 2 #2 July 18, 2004 Not a problem. Hapens to me quite often on 3 different units.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

diablopilot 2 #4 July 18, 2004 Quotemy mac daddy hookturn Dude! I need one of those. Is it like a 270 left followed by a 540 right, and a Lazyboy-nothing to a method, with a tow tap on the way out? Chrisky 2 #9 July 19, 2004 He was referring to the 2nd alarm sequence going off. What usually happens during hard turns is the flatline sequence (3rd alarm), if a speed higher than ~20-25 m/s vertical is reached. The second alarm goes off at designated altitude even if you are under canopy. Might maybe help for a CReW breakoff notice or such (wild guess). RTFM...The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ... masher 1 #10 July 19, 2004 I was referring to my second alarm going off. It's happened at least twice that I can remember, and probably more than that. Once was after an 8k hop.n.pop. I was doing some toggle spirals and at 2500' my dytter went off. My second alarm is set at 2500'. As soon as I let up, it stopped. The second was a hopnpop from 4k', and it was a front riser turn that set it off. . The second alarm doesn't always go off! You need to fulfill two requirements for it to go off: be at the preset altitude, and be descending at greater than a preset speed (whatever they are) RTFM yourself . From the manual: 1st warning One 3 second pulsating alarm if vertical airspeed exceeds 13 m/sec at preset altitude. Sound sequence: Pulsating, low repetition 2nd warning One 4 second pulsating alarm if vertical airspeed exceeds 13 m/sec at preset altitude. Sound sequence: Pulsating, high repetition 3rd warning Siren alarm as long as vertical airspeed exceeds 29 m/sec at or below the preset altitude. Sound sequence: High pitch continuous siren-- Arching is overrated - Marlies
skydiverton 0 #11 July 19, 2004 Happens a lot, Modern parachutes have a higher rate of decent than 13m/sec in a turn. For me it is easy to get the the second signal of flatline under canopy. Just make a radical turn, preferable with frontriser because this will increase the speed even more. It might be helpfull to add your canopy size and weight to this post: Stiletto 107 75 kg (156lbs) With a spectre 150 I have more difficulty to ring the flatline. DU NOT TRY THIS AT LOW ALTITUDE. LANDING AFTER YOUR CANOPY WILL CAUSE A LOT OF DAMAGE AND PAIN ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
Chrisky 2 #12 July 19, 2004 Quotevertical airspeed exceeds 13 m/sec at preset I would have RTFM myself, if i had had it at hand. But there's the textbook answer, now isn't it? 13 m/s isn't that much at all. I usually dump below the 2nd warning, as i use my 2nd for "end track, slow down, wave+pull" notice @ 3k, having me dump @ 2.5k or so.The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. vladavr 0 #15 July 19, 2004 No spirals or hard turns. The last time it went off happened right after I unstowed the togles, canopy usually 'dives' a little at this point. Do you think this could cause the second alarm go off? Weight 200lbs. Hornet
vladavr 0 #16 July 19, 2004 No, it doesn't. It only happened to me twice. I always keep my second alarm at 2.5 as a backup for my 'built-in timer'.
