steve1 5 #1 July 16, 2004 My back-up rig has an old Falcon in it. It also opens kind of hard. I hardly ever jump it, but since my other rig is at the riggers, I'll have to use it for a few more days. My question is, is it okay to pro-pack it rather than the recommended flat -pack (for F-111 material). Actually I psycho-packed it for the last two jumps, and it opened perfect. Soft and on heading. Everyone I talk to at our DZ says that this may be a "no no"....Thanks for your input.....Steve1
councilman24 37 #2 July 16, 2004 No problem. We essentially propack reserves. (A little neater of course) Propack away.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
skybytch 273 #3 July 16, 2004 QuoteEveryone I talk to at our DZ says that this may be a "no no".... I can't see why it would be a problem. The only reason I didn't pro pack my F111 mains (Fury, PD190) was because they were so ragged out they opened slow with a flat pack. Tried pro packing the Fury a few times and scared myself with some loooong openings.
riggerrob 643 #4 July 16, 2004 I have PRO-packed thousands of F-111 student canopies, tandems and reserves. PRO-packing was the only way we could tame hard openings on F-111 tandem mains made by Strong Enterprises. The main reason that Precision recommends flat-packing your Falcon is that flat-packing was the only "proven" method back when Falcons were in production. If you call Precision today, I will bet that they will recommend psycho-packing your Falcon. Psycho-packing is a minor variation of PRO-packing. Harksaw 0 #5 July 16, 2004 I've propacked a bunch of Mantas and PD 9-cells and they've been wonderful. You do have to watch on very large canopies that you keep the pack wide so its not too tight in the center, as propacking tends to give me a narrower pack.__________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks.
