lintern 1 #1 June 30, 2004 I have just purchased a used Wings as my first rig. Does anyone have advice on insuring it? I live in the UK and I was wondering if there are any company's that will insure it and how much it would cost? I paid £1700 for it - with the exception of the Cypress (which is 10 years old) the rig is virtually brand new. It only has about 20 to 30 jumps on it. But it is still alot of money and I would not feel comfortable to leave it lying around a DZ ! So many other people do though, yet anybody could walk off with one. But then is it because these people have their rigs insured? What about insurance against damage, as well as theft?
Chrisky 2 #2 June 30, 2004 Well, i know there's an insurance in Germany that covers the whole thing (even lost canopy after cutaway), which costs like 90 Euros p.a.. I have no idea whatsoever whether they only offer it there or not, though. It's by a private insurance coop'ing with one of the big ones, and it's called "GFF card". First thing is to write down all the serial numbers (and correct color codes) and put them to your files (for that worst case...).The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. AndyMan 7 #3 June 30, 2004 I know nothing about the UK, but in Canada and the US, it's common to get rigs included in standard homeowners and renters insurance policies. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
vt1977 0 #4 July 1, 2004 Try Harrison Beaumont. They are not cheap, but they will cover it. You could also try getting it added onto your home contents policy. That may work out cheaper. hth! Vicki
Peej 0 #5 July 1, 2004 I'm going to the US in a few days and have added mine to my household policy just in case the airline gets me there but not my gear Another good piece of advice i was given was to lay it all out and take individual photographs of each piece of gear. Put them in your files with the serial numbers Chrisky mentioned Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
Remster 30 #6 July 1, 2004 In the UK, our home-owner content insurance covered it as long as we stated it (articles above a certain value needed to me bentioned specifically). I think we used the AA insurance.Remster

I think we used the AA insurance. I keep asking my insurance agent if I need to list certain household items (periodically we talk and I bring up my latest big-ticket items), but they never need me to. I guess I don't have anything they would consider really "nice". -=-=-=-=- Pull.

If it states that items over X value need to be listed, and you make a claim of an item over X, you may be SOL...Remster
rmsmith 1 #9 July 7, 2004 Easy, your automobile policy. If your rig walks off the DZ, just toss a large rock through one of your auto's side windows, and then call it in to your claims folks. However, don't expect the renewal policy to go down in price.
mouth 0 #10 July 8, 2004 State Farm here in the US has all my gear insured agains theft, dmange or loss. I had it added to my homeowners policy but it is called a personal articles policy. Well worth it to me as I now dont' worry about someone taking my gear or loosing anything. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
