Amazon 7 #2 July 1, 2015 oldskierHi did my first tandem at age 59. It was like being reborn and now I have to do it to LIVE!!!!. Going in september to do my AFF . Any recommendations Az vs Fla..?. Any places that are age friendly. Why wait till Sept??? Age is relative.... keep the canopy big and docile. Sept in AZ.. still HOT.... Sept in FL is hurricane season I have lived in FL as has my family since the mid 1800's.... and HOT and humid... Go north and git er done... Midwest.. not so great weather this year so far ..... the Northwest right now the weather is great .....Warm and sunny.... longer days right now... sunset is after 9PM in Seattle and sun up before 5AM... FlyingRhenquest 1 #3 July 1, 2015 September/October in Colorado tends to be pretty nice. Could you get your A license at Mile Hi and then head down to Eloy when the weather starts to go bad? I see a few AFF students in their late 50s and early 60s, maybe a few who are older.I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here? wolfriverjoe 1,523 #4 July 1, 2015 As long as you are in reasonably good shape and health, you aren't too old. There are a number of folks who started at/near your age. Professor Kallend, Grannyinthesky and a few others. There's also a fairly big number of jumpers who have kept going well into their "senior years." Hell, next year you will be eligible to join SOS. Stay conservative as far as jumps & gear go and you should be ok. I can't say much about AZ, but I know there are a bunch of "old farts" down in Florida. My original instructor retired down to there (Deland IIRC) and has lots of company."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Amazon 7 #10 July 2, 2015 oldskier Thanks! If I quit my job I could go tomorrow. Appreciate all the advice you folks have given What do you consider WAY NORTH.... I am just 90 minute from the Canuckistani border.... weather here has been too damn hot..... 90's this weekend but it has been in the 70's to low 80's. The higher the ground level above sea level and the hotter the air..... landings get "faster".. a term you will get to learn is density altitude... There are DZ's all over the map.. here and in Canuckistan to the north July is usually good weather time in the west... East US this year seems to be getting a dip in the jet stream making for lots of storms.... while we are sitting under VERY clear blue skies of a High Pressure system out here on the Pacific Coast. Take the weekend class... start jumping...... you do not have to crank all of them out at once. do a couple levels a weekend... if you want a really slow pace... and yes.. pick someplace that has a tunnel.... great place to get rid of any bad habits very early on. oldskier 0 #11 July 2, 2015 Wish I could do weekends but work in Fort Mac in an isolated construction camp. Only home for a few days every 2 weeks. Hence the September Vacation will be the only time and if last year is any indication we'll have snow again! My son is in AZ so Eloy will be the best choise. Long term weather says late sept. will be colder and drier than usual so that's a plus! Thanks again
