AFF dilemma

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone....I had my first tandem a few months back at my local DZ which is about a 45 min drive away from me. Of course I've caught the bug and want to get certified. My problem is that my work schedule allows me one weekend off a month and the local DZ is only open Friday to Sunday making it difficult for me to get out there frequently. There is a highly rated DZ a little over a hour and a half away that is open 7 days a week and is 300.00 less for the entire AFF course (25 jumps included plus all equipment rental). I don't mind the drive on the days I could get over there and it would give me a better chance to get through AFF sooner. I'm not trying to hurry through class but if I go to the local place I'm looking at being able to make it one weekend a month and I'd like to keep my jumps somewhat close to each other to stay current. I had a great experience with my tandem and really wish I could take AFF locally but it is inconvenient and more expensive. My question is do you guys feel the closer DZ would "look down" on me for taking AFF else where and then showing up once I'm certified to jump. I would like to think this wouldn't be a issue but I understand how they may be disappointed I didn't go with them. Maybe I'm just overthinking the whole thing. What's your opinion?

Well you gotta remember, you are doing this for yourself. It's your money and your time. Besides i doubt they are gonna go out of business because you didn't do your aff with them. And in all honesty, don't get caught up in the hype, I'm in category C of my AFF at the same DZ i started at, and i dont get treated the same. I did my first jump there and they were all so cool and nice and they are your "bro", and now after being there for a little while your just another customer. I watch them do the same thing with all the other first timers, you gotta remember this is a business. They hook you in and do enough to keep you around. But like i said you are doing this for yourself!!!!! Just as i am, so i'll deal with it. I'm sure once i graduate i'm not gonna be best buds with my instructor.

I'll parrot what everyone else has already said.

Do what's right for YOU.

That applies to everything skydiving related. Always, always, always make the decisions based on what's right for YOU with bottom-line consideration of your honest, self-evaluation of YOUR skill level. As soon as you sacrifice that, you are setting yourself up for trouble of one sort or another.

The nearest DZ is highly unlikely to take offense to your training elsewhere. If they do, you may want to consider that attitude as something you may not want to get involved with.

As long as you are smiling, you are having fun.
:)

My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
