nickbr 0 #1 June 5, 2011 Hi All Looking into getting my skydiving certificate. I currently live in Cayman so will be training in Florida. Can anyone suggest a reputable school for my wife and I? I've been looking into the training on the web, and it looks reasonable to try to get a class A cert if we take a week off work and go out for 9 days? Does that seem reasonable or am I wide of the mark? Thanks all, much appreciated. Nick
nickbr 0 #2 June 6, 2011 I found the list of DZ's with reviews and I think I've decided on skydivecity. Reading around it seems going to class A in a little over a week might be a bit optimistic. I guess the best approach will be to try to get as much done as possible and head back over a couple of weekends to finish off. Sadly this means more flights which will greatly increase the cost, but those are the breaks. I might instead try to get a little more than a week off work but that might be hard to organize. Just a note to the site owners and reviewers, this site is proving to be a great resource full of really useful information, so thanks a million everyone, hugely appreciate it. Final thought: I see a lot of cross over between skydiving and scuba diving, the course structure is very PADI-esque to my mind, and the need to calmness and situational awareness in stressful circumstances is a common theme. I wonder what proportion of skydivers are also recreational or technical divers, and how that compares to the general populations figures. Thanks again everyone, great forum full of helpful people. nickbr 0 #4 June 23, 2011 thanks Skymama, most kind. Yup, I plan to be there late summer. We're not too far away, just an hour flight, so I figured Florida would be best. Perhaps I should look a bit further afield for more stable weather at that time of year perhaps? Talking to a skydiving friend they seemed to think summer was a good time, but they're from Chicago which has a somewhat different climate I hear. Windy, apparently. Again, thanks for the tips, hugely appreciated. Cheers Nick
skymama 37 #5 June 24, 2011 Well, so far we've had a very dry year and many parts of FL are in drought conditions, so you can never really tell what's going to happen on the dates that you pick. Like I said, it's usually afternoon showers that we get when it's a regular season. If you start jumping early in the day, I'm sure you can get a few in. Just make sure the dz you pick flies all during the week (like in Deland). She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
