f1freak 0 #26 June 19, 2004 Dude, no disrespect.... but it sounds like you went WAY out of your way to make an ILL fitting rig; fit you..... That photo is such a fluke...... Here is what it says to me, " If you buy a used rig, make sure it fits!!!!!!" i have never had a rig fit so bad, it is such a bad marketing ploy!!....HAVE FUN... ...JUST DONT DIE
skycat 0 #27 June 19, 2004 QuoteI think they're a great idea for student rigs too. We stick tiny AFF students into huge containers that hold 290s, and the belly-band makes them more comfortable and helps the rig hug to them in freefall. It may also help the student remember to do their chest strap, since they now have two straps around their front, rather than one - I don't know. What I don't understand is why they would market belly-bands to freeflyers? By the time a person starts FF, they should have their own gear, and it should be suitable for FF (which includes being well-fitting). If the rig is that poorly fitting as shown in the pics, it should not be used for FF. Probably it shouldn't be used for belly either, but for student gear, there are greater offenses. If you look at that rig in the pic it's a full articulated rig, meaning hip and chest rings. Now girls tend to be hippy with booty, so when going from standing to sitting, the way the rig fits can change. This is actually why I've never gotten a rig with chest rings, I mean if you have to make the chest strap so tight to keep them from allowing the hip rings to move back you have kind of defeated the purpose for getting them which is comfort. You know in a way it makes chest rings look like a bad idea.Fly it like you stole it!
hookitt 1 #28 June 19, 2004 That rig just doesn't fit. (or didn't prior to harness modification). The laterals are way too long. The hip rings sit up too high (indicating too long of leg straps), It appears too long over the shoulders. It just doesn't come close to fitting. Mistakes happen but a belly band will do nothing more than just keep the rig on her. Think of trying to do graceful freestyle with it fitting that way. Containers are just big rectangles with a harness placed on a human body. Small girls are tough to size in the first place. A reasonable fitting rig with a belly band could help out.. On students, I can definately see it's benefit. The chestrings don't seem to hinder any thing in that picture. however, I no longer have chest rings. I liked them but they absorb harness input during hook turns ... I mean swoop approaches The Belly band is a good Idea in many applications but damn, that picture (nice photo at that) of an exagerated ill fitting harness is over the top My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Deuce 1 #29 June 20, 2004 Yeah. Look at Ankie, a very small woman in a teenie tiny rig. (A Wings rig I might add) and how it fits her. Her husband, Colon Berry, wouldn't let her get all busted up jumping silly, crappy fitting stuff. Ankie's rig is still the smallest rig I have ever seen. I think this is Colon and Ankie jumping, but I'm not completely sure. Articulated rigs should fit. I have two articulated Wings rigs I'm selling, and I've let a few people jump them. Regardless of whether it's a Wings or an Infinity (Buy from Dom!) the freaking rig should fit, without the silly band on the hip straps. Test jump the system, find out it's the most comfortable thing you have ever jumped, and buy it. But stuff that requires a retrofit, that you plan on doing several hundred jumps on, is stupid. For some folks in remote locations that can't jump lots of for sale gear, the belly band might be viable. But when you want to jump comfortably and safe, for hundreds of jumps, get a good rig from a reputable dealer who knows how to measure you. I will be available in Sweden during the Herc boogie for that service, whatever rig you are interested in. In the sauna.
hookitt 1 #30 June 20, 2004 QuoteRegardless of whether it's a Wings or an Infinity (Buy from Dom!) No Offense to Dom ... but I like to buy stuff from Bonnie, (Gravitygirl). Nice Picture. That does look like it could be Colon. I thought he only jumped full face? Then again I haven't seen him in years. Speaking of actual uses for a Belly Band, I have type 17 and a good sewing machine. Our student rigs could probably use them. Good Night. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
Deuce 1 #31 June 20, 2004 Timmea! Yes, buy from the local gear dealers! And Bonnie is a great measurer, regardless of the suit or rig you are buying! People, if you get measured by a qualified gear dealer, like Bonnie at Gravity Gear, or at Square One, your shit should fit without aftermarket modifications. There's a lot of used, great, gear out there, and my buds at GG, SQ1, and SkyBiotch will not sacrifice your safety and comfort to profit. Skydiving is usually unique in that way. "Hey, Biotch! Why does this rig lift so high when it's cranked down so hard?" "Cause you are not a fat biotch!" Says Bonnie, Dom, JP (SoCal), and Bitch.
