Galenis 0 #1 July 23, 2010 So last Sunday I made my first AFF jump. Things did not go according to plan(or at least the plan in my head). I was so focused on the jump and the freefall drills that when it didn't work out I was way dissapointed in myself and the jump. I realize "first time perfect" doesn't exist but it still bothers me. Did anyone else have this experience? I am totally looking forward to spending this Saturday at the DZ and am confident my next jump will be better but I am stuck on how dissapointed in myself I was after my last jump. I guess there isn't actually a question here but any comments are appreciated. It's time for my nightly ritual: Pleasure myself, weep, and repeat. bluetwo 0 #2 July 23, 2010 Welcome, and don't worry about it even for a minute. There's a hell of a lot going on in a skydive and the first few are probably going to be a bit of a blur. Your eyes will open as you go and you'll notice more and more each time, at least that's what I was told and it turned out to be true. Have fun with it and see ya around._______________________________________
MrDree 0 #3 July 23, 2010 Like bluetwo said, don't worry. On your next jumps, your brain will seem to work faster and faster, and eventually you won't feel that sensory overload anymore. You will be able to enjoy each jump a little more than the previous, giving you more "brain time" to think about what is happening and what you have to do to improve your skills. Stay safe, and have fun!! "One day, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching." Dudeist Skydiver #

Did anyone else have this experience? Nearly EVERYONE has this experience! It's only the rare oddball who doesn't. Let me ask you...have you EVER done anything perfectly the first time you tried it? What other sport do you get to practice 1 minute at a time? Drill all you want to...you get 1 minute to get it perfect...it ain't a-gonna happen. What we do is improve as we go along. Just that simple. Just like any other activity. Sounds like you are having what I had during AFF training....performance anxiety. Whatever I did was not good enough, I should have done it better. I got over it by focusing on what I did right and got away from beating myself up on what I did "wrong". THAT'S when the fun started. If you ain't smilin', you ain't doin' it right. (stolen quote from another AFFI) Start smiling! My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Melissa126 0 #5 July 23, 2010 I'm also a newbie! I was stuck on a category for awhile, and all I could think about was the negatives, I was beating myself up about it... It took me a few days to step back and just say to myself "Hey, I'm getting to jump out of a plane!!!! This is what I enjoy" and just start enjoying it, the good, the bad, and the ugly, it's all learning, enjoy :)

Mangiapane85 0 #7 July 23, 2010 Good luck! Let us know how tomorrow goes. I'm curious though, what were you most disappointed with yourself over? Galenis 0 #8 July 23, 2010 Wasn't anything big. Just didn't like the feel of my practice touches and legs out. Yes I know I am being overcritical of myself. The closer I come to tomorow the less I am dwelling on it and the more I am looking forward to more practice. It's time for my nightly ritual: Pleasure myself, weep, and repeat. justin84 0 #10 July 26, 2010 Ya same thing happened to me on my first one. I did worse than you even, I forgot to pull my shoot and check my altimeter. Thank god for good instructors :P The next ones got a little better each time. They're still mostly a blur and I feel like a robot going through the motions but at least the motions are getting better :D
