etmz7 0 #1 July 13, 2010 Whats up skydiving world?! My name is Ethan. I am new to skydiving and I am on level 9 of my AFP Class. My home DZ is Skydive Chicago. I am in their USPA A-License in a week program. I made through the first 8 steps of the program n then broke my leg on the 8th jump landing. I have been down for over a month and I have a week or two left before I can jump again. I can barely wait! I would like to know the best way to go about purchasing items from the classified ads. Also I am still kind of confused on wing loading and the type of canopy to purchase. If anyone could just shoot me some quick tips or something that would be great. My email is ETMZ7@dropzone.com. Thanks!
bluetwo 0 #2 July 13, 2010 What's up, nice to see you on here. Here's the wing loading calculator: http://www.dropzone.com/safety/tools/calculator_wing_load.shtml The advice I got was to avoid an elliptical canopy and go with a square or semi-elliptical instead. Of course I'm a newbie too. I just bought a rig from a guy on here and contacting him via email worked. We got phone numbers and texted mostly after a few phone calls and that worked fine._______________________________________
HoldtheIce 0 #3 July 14, 2010 On purchasing rigs, I recommend you getting your A first and then jump a few friends sports rigs. Right now, I'd guess you are still jumping student rigs with light wing loads. Don't jump right into purchasing a chute. Fly a few first and decide what type of performance you want. If you get into the click that does a lot of swooping and you want to learn that part of the sport, if you buy now, you may be stuck with something that will not sute your desires. Go a head and get your helmet, goggles, altimeter, gloves, Maybe even a suit. There again, will you be doing mostly RW jumps or will you be free flying? You will need different suits just for that. Just get the basic stuff now, Bro. The rest will come in time. skymama 37 #4 July 14, 2010 Welcome to the forums! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
mchamp 1 #5 July 14, 2010 Completely agree with Skymama. SDC is an amazing dropzone with very knowledgable people around. My advice is to ask your instructors and do such research on your own and see what kind of containers that you might be interested in. Can't quite say what I'd recommend as far as canopies go since I don't know your weight slash haven't seen you fly anything, but something nice and docile and lightly loaded. The best advice you could possibly get would once again be from your AFF instructors. Cheers and blue skies! For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
