zachflem 0 #1 March 17, 2010 Hi folks! After years of dreaming about sky diving, i've finally booked my first tandam jump (a week and a half from now!) My brother in law and I are seriously looking at doing the AFF course simply because it's something we'd like to say we've at least done... One of the things I'd never considered was skydiving as a career. Is Australia really big enough to need my services, should I take my diving up as a serious venture? Or am I better of looking at it as something that I'll be doing as a casual sport? The more I think about it, the more I realise that the area I live in has the ideal jump weather, plenty of open areas that could be DZ's and several smaller air fields (not that our commercial airfield is all that big!) that could be used as a base. I've got so many questions running through my head, I just don't know where to begin! So I guess I want to hear more about how people got started in professional skydiving and how might be the best way for me to do so in 2010! Cheers in advance for your help! jim_32766 0 #7 March 17, 2010 I love this part " . . . doing the AFF course simply because it's something we'd like to say we've at least done...". That's when it all starts. I remember saying, "Let's go try out the wind tunnel, it looks like fun." Then it was, "Wow, the wind tunnel was great. I really should do a tandem just to see what skydiving is like." That was followed by, "Dang, that was cool. I wonder what it would be like to jump with my own parachute. I should do AFF just for the learning." Then, "AFF was a blast. I wonder how hard it would be to get an A license, and maybe I should buy some of my own gear." It's a slippery slope. I have a feeling this sequence never ends. I hope you have fun on the journey! gregpso 1 #10 March 23, 2010 At around $40 per tandem or AFF you will not become rich but what a job getting paid to jump. Costs a bloody fortune to get your ratings first. I asked my favorite TM how much it had cost him to wear around the staff Polo shirt.. "I stopped counting after $25 thousand.!!!
