Listen to your instructors.

Ask questions. Anything you don't understand, you need to ask about.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES say "But they said on DZ.com..."

Stay hydrated and fed - Don't eat anything heavy or greasy, but make sure you are eating. Fruits and veggies are great, add some protien (nuts are good) and a few carbs. It will be a long and intense day, make sure you keep your energy up.

I don't know the weather patterns at Perris, but the instructors won't let you jump if the conditions aren't ok. You may have to wait to jump (you will learn how to sit on the picnic table, looking up at the sky saying "Do you think it'll get better soon?") You may have to come back another day. Don't worry about it. Go jump. There is never a guarantee of good weather.

MOST IMPORTANT!! - Have fun.:)
There's a bunch of the Perris crowd on here (a couple of the instructors too, I think). But don't worry about that now, other than not saying anything too stupid.

When you leave the plane, do NOT jump UP! You will already be high enough! Jump DOWN......that's the direction you will be going anyway.:)

do NOT watch malfunction videos Yet.

dropzone is a good place to shoot the shit, but leave it at that for now. everyone can give advice on here so you have to make sure you are not being led by the blind.

your instructors and the SIM are your BEST sources of information. ask any questions that you have no matter how stupid you think they are. we all start with zero jumps so the "stupid" questions you ask have all been asked before.

personally i always stretch before a jump. it can be taxing on your body when you aren't used to it, and it always helps to have your muscles loosened up.

and probably the hardest thing to do on your first jump is too relax. things go a lot smoother if you dont fight the wind, just let it flow through you.

good luck and blue skies

edited to add: dont worry about the weather. you learn as much on the ground as you do in the air. i believe a bad weather day at the dz is still better than a good day anywhere else.

Yeah definately dont worry about the weather. I just finished my AFF in 3 days. The first day was rainy as all hell. So we spent the whole day going over emergency procedures, malfunctions, dive flows, etc. That gave me more time to absorb what I learned. It was kind of hard to relax at first, but after that first jump, I was able to relax a lot more than before.

Make sure you bring water and something to snack on for during the day. I couldnt believe how hungry I was after the first few jumps. And if you live any where close to a wind tunnel, Go!!! I did a total of 18 minutes in there days before my AFF and it really helped out alot. Hope this helps.
