Brakelines in a PRO Pack

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit anal about the stabilizers being over top of the lines... after I've got the tail wrapped around, and after I've shoved the nose into thepackjob (depending on type and size of canopy), right before I roll up the tail and place the packjob on the floor, I will lift up the tail, grab the stabilizers and throw them around over top of the lines again.

Do you mean wrapping the stabilisers over the top of the brakelines ? so that all the lines are completely enclosed before lifting the tail up?

Exactly, with the steering lines position as in the pic, they are set up to produce a line-over on opening. Also, one of the slider grommets isn't up against the slider stop, that can produce hard openings. It may have moved during the un-packing process, just something to think about.

DZO told me I did the same thing on my new Tri; he had thought that I pulled the steering lines as I lifted the center of the tail then pulled around to form the cocoon, I'm pretty sure I didn't, so I'm trying to figure out what else I could have done...the other deal is this was on the SECOND attempt at getting the damn thing in the bag...slippery freaking new canopy...I couldn't get it in the first time, it starting looking like hell, so I started to lay it out to start over, and that's when the DZO said it didn't look good. [:/]

BTW, does anyone know of a video that demonstrates exactly what happens on deployment? Like a super-slow-mo of a canopy coming out, with the lines labeled and all that so I can grasp the concept? Even a CG version would be helpful...I've seen it above me of course, but I have a hard time understanding spacially where everything was prior to it coming out of the bag...this would help tremendously on figuring out how my pack jobs are working out...:|

You can simulate each step of the deployment and inflation sequences by undoing your pack job. When I was learning to pack, I was so anal about my packing (maybe it was the back-to-back reserve rides on jumps 18 & 19) that I would pack and unpack my gear several times a day. It will give you a good idea of what everything looks like as the canopy deploys and inflates.

If you're worried about getting line-overs, I suggest you try the Wolmari-pack. It's basically a pro-pack, but instead of rolling the fabric(and steering lines!) under the cocoon it's folded over. The pictures on the site will explain it better.

I've been using it for a while on my Hurricane 135 and the deployments have been at least as good as with a standard pro-pack. Your mileage may vary.
