Forummoto 0 #1 May 13, 2009 Hey all I just did my first tandem jump last weekend at the parachute center in Lodi, and LOVED IT! I was scared to death at first but now I think I have the bug. Its now become something that i want to do 24/7! I'll be heading back in a month to do another tandem or 2 and then do AFF! I'm excited to be here! -Jason Tompkins

Good luck and keep us posted as to your progress! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive. 377 22 #8 May 13, 2009 Welcome Jason. Skip the additional tandems and get right into AFF. Your money is better spent there IMHO. If you get a chance book some tunnel time at iflysfbay.com. I think if you conquer instability in the tunnel then AFF will go a lot better for you. I am not an AFF instructor however. See what they advise. If you think a tandem was great wait until you jump solo! 3772018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968. Forummoto 0 #9 May 16, 2009 I was thinking about doing the AFF but thought that one more tandem jump underneath me might be helpful just to take away the slight nervousness. Also, I've been doing a lot of reading around here, and still feel lost. Gear wise, I don't know where to start, and really know (that well) anyone that does this as avidly as I want to so I don't have anyone to talk to about it. Anyone have any good starter articles they can point me towards? Thanks a lot..and sorry if I sound newbish
skymama 37 #10 May 16, 2009 By the time you get through your training, you'll have a lot better idea of what you'll need for gear. The first things you'll probably want are your own goggles, helmet, altimeter and jumpsuit. You should be able to get all of those used through the Classifieds on here. If you're unsure about your helmet size, just try some on at your local gear store. If you get a full face, you won't have to worry about goggles with those. Don't worry about a rig purchase right now, you're instructors will help you with what size will be right for you and most people rent gear until around the time they've gotten their A license. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
