shah269 0 #1 April 8, 2009 Hay every one, my name is Shahram but everyone calls me Shah. Like most I've had this urge to fly and well I think I'm financially ready for it. Here is a little back info on my self 1) I own a 96 GPZ-1100 and try and ride to work 3 days a week. 2) I have been going to Yoga class twice a week for the past three year. 3) I try and go indoor rock climbing at least once a month. As for my questions for you, well....cost? How much should I put aside so as to get certified?Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. wormly81 0 #2 April 8, 2009 Head up to the Blue Sky Ranch in Gardiner and do your first jump (be sure to get a video). Their website talks all about the financial cost of getting through the IAF program. www.skydivetheranch.com

I have also sent off an email to the local jump shcool and may take a drive up there later next week to see what is going on.Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. shah269 0 #9 April 9, 2009 Oh I’m very sorry about that, we have a pretty nice fire wall here so I was worried that I was missing something. Kind of reminds me of one of the girls in my Yoga class. Likes her bottle of water and my bottle of water to be on the same side of the mat. So as we are practicing, and when she can't see I move my water bottle around. wolfriverjoe 1,523 #10 April 9, 2009 Just my $.02 - Go visit them. Hop on your cycle and visit a couple different DZs. (use the locater to find them) Hang out a bit and watch how they treat the students/visitors. Some DZs are more "Get them up, get them down, Next!". Some are more friendly and welcoming. Find one you feel comfortable at. I'm from the midwest, so I know nothing about Sussex or The Ranch. Quote As for my questions for you, well....cost? How much should I put aside so as to get certified? Cost can be diffficult to figure. Some places offer package deals, but the packages can vary. Graduating AFF and getting to your A license are two very different things. Some may include video. And on and on. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples when looking at packages. And you may (probably will) have to repeat some stuff. Or need more than the minimum 25 jumps to get your A. However, how much will it really cost? In the long run?? ALL OF IT!!Every last dime!!And worth EVERY penny of it"There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I would guess just AFF jumps. make sure and ask what it will cost for all the jumps to get your A lic.. Once you get you A lic. you can jump with other jumpers.Nothing opens like a Deere! JohnDeere 0 #14 April 9, 2009 Looks like a good program (you almost cant go rong with most training programs) and a nice DZ, with nice plains. But the cost you are looking at looks like it is only for jump 2-10 so that is only 9 jumps. You will need to to call them and see what it would cost to get an A lic. the cost is about normal for those jumps though.Nothing opens like a Deere! You ignorant fool! Checks are for workers! Yeah, the person who write back to me indicated that I would have to; Day One: Tandem 1 & 2 Well...ah ok that's nice....but do i really need to tandem? Maybe they are worreid about people freaking out and asking for a refund or worse! Some training programs dont make you do a tandem jump. It just depends on the program. But if you dont have to do a tandem then you will for sure have 2 AFF instructors on your first three jump (if you do AFF training). There is nothing wrong with the training you are looking at, but just make sure the cost for the A lic (minus any repeat jumps)Nothing opens like a Deere! You ignorant fool! Checks are for workers! skymama 37 #17 April 9, 2009 QuoteBut the cost you are looking at looks like it is only for jump 2-10 so that is only 9 jumps. Actually, if you look at it again, it does add up to 25 jumps. I was just chatting online with a dropzone owner and he said the plan and cost looked ok to him. The only thing I would question is the tandems if you don't feel you need to do tandems to start with. Don't get me wrong, I started that way and it was great for me, but some people like to start out with their student jumps and not a tandem. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
shah269 0 #18 April 10, 2009 I'm frantically taking notes here! Thank yo so much for the help! Don't tell the model RC plane guys but you guys and gals are way more informative....but then again...I'm sure none of you are sniffing the copius amounts of glue those guys are! As for the tandems? Well...if i have to I have to. But well...i know this is going to sound nuts.....but I'm kind of committed to this. I'm looking forward to making this hobby a part of my life, much like Yoga and my motorcycle. But then again I don't want to sound nuts. I am about to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft! wolfriverjoe 1,523 #19 April 10, 2009 Don't dismiss the tandems out of hand. They can be great learning experiences if the instructor teaches you instead of giving you a carnival ride. The experience of going out the door, first freefall, first opening are often a blur anyway. Doing the first canopy ride (and especially the first landing) with the instructor right there is a great help. Instant feedback on what you are doing, showing you how the wind affects the landing pattern, pointing out how to (and not to) see height above ground just before landing, ect. All those are valid reasons to go tandem first. You can learn a lot if you want to and if the instructor teaches it."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." shah269 0 #21 April 11, 2009 Rode my motorcycle up to the LZ yesterday around 1ish. There wasn't any one there. Two trailers with a deck in between. Looked nice inside. There was a covered hanger thing. But no one talk to. Looking at the aircraft on the field.....I didn't see anything larger than a beachcraft. So i have no idea how they are going to get me up there! But it looked nice, and I'm sure no one was there due to it being good Friday and all.Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. wolfriverjoe 1,523 #23 April 11, 2009 Lots of smaller DZs are weekend only. We have real jobs during the week. The Cessna 182 is the most common jump plane out there. It takes 4 up to 10k just fine. Just a little slower than a turbine."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
