dj_hp 0 #1 August 5, 2008 Hello guys and gyals! Just a lil intro here.. Name's Jeff, from Toronto. I'm about to make my first jump in a couple of weeks for my friends birthday. I'm really thinking about us doing solo jumps for the first time (since we like extremity like that lol) but what do the experienced jumpers suggest?Men's Rule #1: If it's ITCHY, it WILL be scratched. Chubba 0 #2 August 5, 2008 Welcome to DZ.com Most people I know did AFF stage 1 their first jump instead of tandem. No problems, it's an experience you won't forget Go for it.
dreaming13000 1 #3 August 5, 2008 Whichever one you do, you will love it and it will be like nothing you have ever experienced in your life I did a tandem first, but then again, I had no idea i was going to becomed a skydiver after that Good luck on whichever one you do. gravitysurfer 0 #4 August 6, 2008 Welcome DJ ! Most options are good. It's really up to you. You'll probably get different opinions depending on who you ask here. Let's say that since you're from Toronto you were to decide on Skydive Toronto. They, for example, appear to offer Tandem or Solo Static Line as a first jump method. Tandem: Attached by harness to a certified instructor, freefall and land with a canopy built for two. Advantage: You get a taste of freefall as a passenger with the added security of an instructor in control. Disadvantage: NONE. Static Line: You jump solo and your parachute deploys automatically seconds after your exit. A bit different than the AFF Stage 1 referred to by the above poster. Advantage: You start learning 'canopy control' on your first jump and the feeling of accomplishment by doing it yourself. Disadvantage: NONE. That said, if you continue with either program you'll likely have to do a few (approximately 4-6) static line jumps before being cleared for your first 'solo' freefall. Whichever method you end up choosing just go for it and have fun.It can truly change your life!! OH!...and let us know how it went! aloha.
dj_hp 0 #5 August 6, 2008 Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and information! Really appreciate it! How does the licensing work? Is AFF and PFF the same thing?Men's Rule #1: If it's ITCHY, it WILL be scratched.
pinkfairy 0 #6 August 6, 2008 And some people do it and don't like it! But there's only one way to find out. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?

As this particular forum is dedicated to saying "hello" you may try posting that question over here-- General Skydiving Discussions. It might get more attention and a faster response. aloha. I was looking for a button instead lol. Thanks!Men's Rule #1: If it's ITCHY, it WILL be scratched.
