fiddler 0 #1 June 18, 2008 Hi, I had a lifelong desire to skydive, and made my first jump in 1987. Unfortunately, a rough landing earned me a compound leg and ankle fracture, but as soon as I healed I went back up. I made about half a dozen static line jumps, but never did an AFF or even a freefall. The last time I jumped I did a practice pull but froze...which made me a little antsy about jumping at the time. My family is grown and I am looking at the skies again. Can anyone give me advice as to getting back into it? Also, I am now in my 50s and have gained weight...I am 6-foot-3 and weigh 240 pounds. Do I need to lose some weight before going up, lest I break both my legs this time?

I too am in my 50s. I am 6 ft and weigh 240 (down from 310). I don't have any problem at my Drop Zone except I am not as flexible as I once was so it is a little bit of a challenge to pull on my rig by myself and move around the plane. Once in the air and on landing my size has made no difference. I just will never get to fly one of the sub-100 sheets everyone else is flying.POPS #10623; SOS #1672

fiddler 0 #5 June 19, 2008 Ha..Anvil Brothers! Great! The reason I asked this is that I seem to recall there being a 200-or-so-pound limit at my first drop zone (East Troy, Wis.) But that was 1987, so attitudes (and equipment) may have changed. Thanks for the encouragement.
wildfan75 1 #6 June 19, 2008 If you're still in the East Troy area, contact "Fast" on dz.com (Derrick in real life). He's an instructor there and very involved with their club. Good luck, have fun, be safe. Lynn

Also, I am now in my 50s Well, I can tell you that being in the 50's isn't a barrier. I did a tandem last October, started AFF in November, had a lot of weather delays and got my A last month. I'm up to 42 jumps now. I'm 57 and getting younger by the day, at tleast mentally. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!!
