bjjman 0 #7 June 9, 2008 I would recommend the AFF. That's how I did my first jump a couple months ago and I am so happy I did. There is nothing like stepping off that airplane for the first time by your own free will. If I had already done a tandem I would have known what I was jumping into. To each his own though. chris-b 0 #8 June 9, 2008 as bjjman said, each to their own. but as skymama also said, sensory overload! (i can so relate to that) best just to do it, either way!

skymama 37 #10 June 10, 2008 QuoteHi & thank you skymama, i just read an article by you in a Parachutist magazine. Awesome. I thought you had not been to a dropzone or done a jump yet. How'd you get your hands on a current copy of Parachutist already? Leapinglizardto 0 #11 June 10, 2008 from a friend that first got me interested in the sport, he's got a subscription to it. & since i havent shut up about it since i made my mind up to do it. he continues giving me all the information he can like books & mags newspaper articles (real good one in the ny times a few months back) he can find to keep me from bugging him with too many questions. he also told me about this & 2 other websites for skydiving. but i think i like this the best. the others seem i dont know too hard core & more harsh. otherwise i guess i sound & seem as irritating like a 2 year old that just learned how to ask questions why when where how why when where how. sorry if i did the same & asked too many here yesterday. dont want to be a pest. at least i got one thing corrected i'm not typing like i'm texting anymore. just very excited about finally getting to go the distance. didnt mean to annoy anyone. i just have so much curiosity & interest to satisfy. i only wanted to do this the correct way & have as much knowledge as i can gather before i go up to take the leap. sorry to anyone i irritated. is my over excitement going to be as much a problem annoying & alienate me at any dropzone i go to too? i was under the impression the more experienced ones look forward to helping out a newbie with with questions & help.(newbie a word i learned here yesterday along with whuffo which i was told i still am un til after my first jump then i'm a newbie & also official beer sponsor of the related dropzone & skygods) most of the magazine & news articles mentioned that the people in the sport were looking for increased acceptance & understanding of the sport itself & curb the widespread misconceptions & stigmata that untl recently were often associated with it. but i suppose i can see now that i was wrong. & how so many questions could work adversely. so if i'm cursed with this over enthusiasm seriously. should i wait longer to go to take my first lesson & jump? i dont think i can hide my enthusiasm much. never could. will this be as much a problem at a dropzone or skydiving centers? i know i'm doing it again. i will shut up now. but it was a real good article i thought. as good as the ny times one but even better. just seemed more personal. like others in the mags. real & informative coming from a real skydiver with a family & all the personal touches instead of coming from a journalist with a quote or 2 here & there from a skydiving pro or skydiver. ok for real i'm going to shut up. bye thank 2 u & the others for your friendly answers to my questions. humanflite 0 #18 June 12, 2008 Quote Quote Quote Now i have to do it. You're going to come back and tell us all about it, right? hello labrys. of course You havent jumped yet? If you havent I would heartily recommend doing at least 2 tandems before AFF. I wish I had done because like others say, it is a sensory overload..... and if I knew what the freefall feeling was like before my first AFF I would have had 1 less thing to worry about! Also, you get to see first hand how you should enter the landing pattern and most importantly, how and WHEN to flare so that you dont land like a tonne of bricks on your first few jumps (I DID land like a tonne of bricks and hurt myself on jump2....but still...it taught me to flare properly and since then I have never forgotten.) Leapinglizardto 0 #19 June 12, 2008 hello humanflite thank U for the friendly & helpful advice. i'm finding it is really so much better for me, to get the advice & perspective of experienced fellow skydive enthusiasts. truly much abliged. If you havent I would heartily recommend doing at least 2 tandems before AFF. But I had a couple questions that I thought you guys could answer. During the jump I had the sensation that I couldn't breathe. The instructor told me this was normal, but why does this happen? Do you get used to it? Can you do anything to help that? Also I felt a bit nauseous as well. I don't know why either. I don't get motion sickness and don't have and irritable stomach. Any insight on this? THANKS FOR ANY HELP! uh yea. i'd better do at least 2-3. It's pretty pathetic when you have to TELL people you're fucking cool Skymama «narrative»This thread will lock in 3..2.. bjjman 0 #21 June 13, 2008 I have to disagree with you humanflite. I did AFF for my first jump, and yes it was sensory overload, but I did it and loved it. I am very proud of that accomplishment. So far I am 2 for 2 with great standup landings (knock on wood). I know Leapinglizardto has already decided on tandem, and most people's recommendation has been to do that. I just wanted to reiterate my pro-AFF voice. "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." -Albert Einstein
