chris-b 0 #1 June 9, 2008 I signed up a while ago but i thought id re-introduce myself now ive taken the plunge :) Done a tandem at the north london parachute center today, what an experience! Friendly staff and my instructor had 29 years experience (so he said) so i was confident i was in good hands. The anticipation on the way up was nerve racking, and when the door opened and i sat on the edge looking down, it was unreal. Then the feeling of leaving the plane was incredible in itself, but the freefall had me screaming with joy like a child! being under canopy was at first surreal after the huge rush, but i had a quick go of the toggles before i lost the bloodflow to my arms! the instructor done lots of tight turns over some low clouds on the way down (i was surprised how much G you can actually pull), saw our rainbow shadow, then came in for a perfect landing. For anyone thinking of doing it, i hope ive given you an idea what its like for a first timer. the feeling compares to nothing on this planet. I have subsequently broken my face from grinning all day! tunnel time and aff is next i guess... to be honest the thought of doing it again scares me, but its something i feel i just cant walk away from now

chris-b 0 #5 June 9, 2008 one other thing i forgot to ask, has anyone had any problems on your first few aff jumps in doing what you are supposed to be doing? before my tandem, i was expecting to be able to concentrate at least 95% of the journey down, but due to the overwhelming feeling of freefall for the first time, i was kind of like a passenger in my own body and im worried it may affect when it comes to checking altitude and practice pulls during aff

Internet advice really isn't a really good idea with something as potentially deadly as jumping from airplanes. It's a great world and the best way to get to know it is in person. Go to the dropzone where you plan to jump and just spend some time getting to know the staff and jumpers there. Skydivers love to talk about their experiences.
