pyrodude 0 #1 June 8, 2008 Hey folks, I'm new to this site and new to this sport. I just made my AFFLevel1 jump 25 May at Lake Elsinore. I will figure out a way to get my next 24 done in the coming months.

Leapinglizardto 0 #4 June 10, 2008 hello pyrodude i'm curious. i have not made my 1st jump yet. i plan to accomplish this by mid June. yesterday after much internal debate without a definative answer. i made the decision based on some real wise advice i received here in the forum to make my 1st jump a tandem. did you ever do a tandem or static line jump or did you go directly for AFF?It's pretty pathetic when you have to TELL people you're fucking cool Skymama «narrative»This thread will lock in 3..2.. pyrodude 0 #5 June 10, 2008 I think you are making a wise decision. I made a tandem jump last year. The 20 minute climb to jump altitude did disturbing things to me. I am definitely not a wus, but the thought of stepping out the door of the Otter 2 1/2 miles up scared the living shit out of me. It seemed insane and unnatural. Once out the door, the bone marrow sucking fear vanished and was replaced by an incredibly intense but not unpleasant euphoria. My mind did not have to function much and thus I was able to just absorb this alien experience. AFF requires the active participation of your cognitive higher powers to ensure that your jump has a happy ending. I didn't have master jump-man with 3000 jumps strapped to my back, but I did have my own main and reserve! Doing the tandem removed a chunk of the total fear of the unknown and allowed me to focus the whole time on what I was doing. Now I need to get my lazy ass back to Skydive Elsinore to continue and complete my AFF. (I need someone to prod me.) I need to jump again soon. Seeing my blossomed canopy and flying to the LZ was better than sex. Sorry about my long winded post. Dennis
Leapinglizardto 0 #6 June 11, 2008 hi dennis thank U for the reply encouragement & advice. rolling eyes trying to look innocent -AFF requires the active participation of your cognitive higher powers to ensure that your jump has a happy ending.- (i'm rolling eyes trying to look innocent here) oh yes i better do a tandem first. -Doing the tandem removed a chunk of the total fear of the unknown and allowed me to focus the whole time on what I was doing. that's just one more of many reasons i agree & opted for the tandem. several others were kind enough to offer me the time & advice I was looking for including. the woman who works here at this site & had the article in the Parachutist magazine this month. i think her name is andrea-skymama said the same & gave many other wise pieces of good advice. much like your words they made so much sense. yesterday she convinced me to go for the tandem 1st. several others here including U reinforced that thank U. hope to talk again. maybe even meet some of you at a skydiving ceter or dropzone soon. as for returning the favor. Now I need to get my lazy ass back to Skydive Elsinore to continue and complete my AFF. (I need someone to prod me.) prod prod get your ass out there dennis. brucet7 0 #7 June 11, 2008 Hey Dennis, get out there and finish that AFF. The day you do your A license check jump is a day for the books. And the first jump with your license is pretty awesome as well, or at least it was for me.POPS #10623; SOS #1672
