DeadWeight 0 #1 April 18, 2008 Hi I'm Vinny, 25 years old from southern California. I have recently decided to search for more meaning in life than the normal 9-5 job. Skydiving is something that has fascinated me my entire life, I have just never explored it. Now that I’m ready to do this, I have a few questions if someone could help that would be great! Can I make a living from skydiving? How much does it cost for a basic setup of gear and things? How do I get started in base jumping? Any guidance or help would be great! Thanks! Chubba 0 #2 April 18, 2008 Welcome to DZ.com :) My advice, do your FJC (first jump course) and AFF 1 and make an educated decision from there... definitely the best way is to jump (no pun intended) straight into it. As for BASE, put it out of your mind for the time being IMO. I started AFF purely for BASE (after all, wouldn't jumping out of a plane get boring after a while?) and what I discovered is that skydiving is an extremely rich and varied sport that has a lot (understatement) to offer... BASE is the last thing on my mind now. Cost? A LOT, a freakin lot
skymama 37 #3 April 18, 2008 Welcome to the forums! For gear and training, I'd say you need at least $5000 to get through to your A license at 25 jumps and get your own rig. For BASE jumping, you definitely need some skydives under your belt. Check out the BASE site and see what they say there. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
skyjumpsteve 0 #4 April 18, 2008 Can you make a living? Not really. If you use the search feature you can find a ton of old threads about this topic. Take some time reading through them and decide if you really want to think about trying to make a career out of skydiving. Some do....BUT I think most people find that continuing a non-skydiving career and jumping as a hobby is a wiser choice.
