Another boring noob

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, well I'm another newbie from Daytona Beach Fl. and I would like to get into skydiving. I just have few question and I think that I have a lot of things to learn before i start jumping, hopefully you can help me!

Well my first jump was a tandem jump i did almost 3 years ago in DeLand, Fl. (best place ever). That wasn't my fist time at the DZ. I went couple of time prior to my jump with a good friend of mine that is pretty much a regular there. I loved the place, the atmosphere, the people, (everyone is just friendly and they all know each other) so I got hooked. My big problem is that I'm afraid of heights.

For my 21th birthday I decided I was going to jump and I was going to faced my biggest fear. Anyways, making a long story short. I kinda freaked out on the plane, but once I was up there I had to do it!!! So I jumped. It was the best thing I have ever done, the free falling, the adrenaline (well I think you all know what I'm taking about!) And since then I wanted to try do jump on my own.

I have read many things about the AFF training, and licenses, etc. But I would like to know if you guys could guide me in the right direction, so i can start jumping as soon as i get some money!!! and also I would like to know if you guys think my fear could be a problem, and how can i deal with it or even get over it.

Thank you so much,
Cesar

I think you answered your own question about the fear part. Remember when you did that tandem and almost had a panic attack on the ride up? Then keep in mind the feeling you felt once you left the plane and afterward. Trust me on this, when you do your first sole both the fear factor and the reward will multiply. Before skydiving I had a horrible fear of heights, i could barely handle myself on a ski lift. After my S/l Training that fear is long gone. Besides the adrenaline, skydiving helps you overcome many parts of yourself. When you can face and overcome many of your deepest fears, (heights, death, injury, chickening out) that when you have found an experience and a sport that can last you a lifetime.
Its hard to tell you what to expect because I haven't been to any dropzones in Florida. Before I started doing my training I was asking a bunch of questions in the forum here as well. All you can do is get out there and experience it for yourself. The best advice I can give you is:
1. Get that money and make reservations
2. Try and relax a little
3. Trust your instructors

Welcome to the forums! :)
DeLand is my home dz, I can tell you that you'll definitely get first-rate training there. So, save up your money and I hope to meet you out there someday!

I just graduated AFF here at Sky Dive SW FL and have a few jumps left until my A license. The fear/anxiety has turned into pure joy and now i can't wait to get out of that door, because i know what pleasure lay on the other side. The best piece of advice i have been given by everyone there is "NO HURRIES, NO WORRIES". This applies to training, canopy downsizing etc. Try to do as many jumps as possible close together(it makes getting over the fear much easier) as it has really helped my confidence/muscle memory.
Have Fun!
p.s. nothing worth while is easy
