New to the Sport

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!

Chris here, I am from Gatineau, QC. And am scheduled to start AFF Training this coming May. MAny years ago, at the age of 10, I jumped off my parents roof, equipped with an umbrella, needless to say it didn't go so well,...but at that moment, I knew I wanted to experience human flight. :)

Any advice, suggestions, tips, DZ's (Ottawa-Gatineau area) for a newbie like myself?..My main point of interest so far, is Mile High Parachuting in Arnprior..I've heard good things...any feedback? Look forward to hearing from you guys, and Happy New Year everyone!

~Chris~

Hi Chris,

Gananoque *near Kingston* has a GREAT reputation and excellent instructors (as well, its the home dropzone of my instructor and my second AFF instructor to be.. I totally trust those guys and they certainly have good things to say about Gan.)

As for other places to try.
PST (parachute school of Toronto)
is my home dropzone and the only one in Ontario which is open for the winters! for those who want to get some hop n pops in the winter its the place to go.
Both dropzones have a website:

http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/Detailed/517.shtml
info on Gananoque and
PST at:
http://www.parachuteschool.com/

Arnprior I do not know anything about.

Skydive Burnaby has a great reputation also:

http://www.skydiveburnaby.com/

Hope this gives you some info to start with.

Welcome to the sport and thanks for the intro.
Hoping to see you around in the Blue Skies...
you'll recognize me pretty much at any DZ, since I'm the short hair chick in a wheelchair who is "wacky" and "crazy" about sky diving.
Currently I need to stick to my home dropzone PST until I've got my A license (hoping to acquire it by the end of 2008 autumn.)

Be well remain strong and Happy New yr,

Hey ArcNem... WELCOME to the boards and somewhat to "OUR WORLD"... Kickback, click, scroll etc through all of the info including SAFETY stuff and start getting familiar... But when you meet your instuctor listen to Her/Him (;) girls first) and have a GREAT time...

I also would like to have seen a video of that MaryPoppins stunt....

Dude, thats your new name!;):P

Hi DD! Thanx for the welcome!

Sounds like good advice!! I am lucky to have several DZ's around here, it's all about choosing the one I get the best ''vibe'' from ... So far Mile High Parachuting seem to be the way to go (around here)...have a look at their website...lots of impressive credentials from the instructors: http://www.milehighparachuting.com

Hahaha Mary Poppins, .... quite a contrast seeing that I'm 6"1" ---covered in tattoos (head to toe) ...hahaha!!

Cheeerz,
Chris
