DavidB 0 #1 December 8, 2007 Been nosing around the site for a couple days & figured I'd sign up. Saw a few names I recognize. Geeze, it makes me feel old! Last jump was in 1994, but still get the urge to dust off the old gear & head down to Crosskeys. Made a few memorable jumps & boogies in the 10 years prior. Killed a few brain cells in the process! Miss the comraderie something awful! Almost cried when I drove past the Lakewood airport a few months ago & nearly didn't recognize the place. I'll still list it as my "home DZ" though, as that's where I made my first jump & spent three VERY memorable years, including being on the last legal load to jump there in November 1986 (attempted an 8-way from both C-182's, I docked! ). Hope to reestablish communication with some of the old crew from Lakewood. David Barletta C-18138When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. DavidB 0 #3 December 9, 2007 Quote Welcome to the forums! Thanx! Probably not going to jump again, despite the occasional longing to. Been heavily involved in the old car thing. Playing with muscle-era Mopars has done a great job of keeping me broke & busy. I actually found this forum by searching for an old friend, Ricky (y'all know him as Rickster) Powell. Sure wish he was a member here so I could bust his chops some. Ahhh... the embarrassing stories I could tell about him! There was actually a time I had more jumps than him. One of these days I'll get ALL the Gus Wing pics scanned of our tube dive at DeLand during the '86 Easter Boogie. Yea, a slightly interesting story there! If only we had a forum here called "No shit, there I was..." just for us old farts to tell our storied/lies in. Guess I'll just have to spend some time in the History & Trivia forum, eh?When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. skymama 37 #4 December 9, 2007 Ah, Gus and Rickster...Rickster is still jumping a lot in DeLand. Gus, well, he left us too soon, but a good guy nonetheless. DavidB 0 #6 December 10, 2007 Just dug the old log book out of the closet & I was mistaken... The very last jump at Lakewood Skydiving Center was made on November 24, 1985. Seems like yesterday, yet so very long ago at the same time. When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
Skyu4ia 0 #7 January 21, 2015 Actually I made the LAST skydive at Lakewood Airport... with an unnamed accomplice... (RP) We made a bandit jump in 1998. It was a hoot. The airport manager had a S fit... threatened to call the FAA etc etc... We landed in the small landing area near the parking lot.
FlyingRhenquest 1 #8 January 22, 2015 A lot's happened since 1985. You could go hop in a wind tunnel somewhere and see if you still like freefall. I suspect that even if you do want to do a jump, you don't want to dust off your old gear...I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
