PikzeeVikzen 0 #1 May 8, 2007 I did my first tandem a few weeks ago and took the class for first jump but the weather didn't allow the actual jump. If the skies allow it I'm jumping this Friday. I was instantly addicted after my tandem only problem is I'm really nervous about leaving the plane on my own. I have no doubt I'll be fine once I get passed "oh shit I just jumped out of a plane". Any advice on getting over the leap of faith jitters?
mwaller 0 #2 May 8, 2007 Welcome, Kami! This June 25th will be my 2nd year jumping. I still remember taking that first “leap of faith” out of a Cessna! My advice would be to speak to your instructor, relax, and do not do anything until you are 100% ready to do so. Work with your instructor to iron out your jitters, try not to rush and relax. You have a huge group of new friends that have all been where you are at. Enjoy your new friends and all of your jumps!!!! Good luck! Michael
SkyjunkySean 0 #3 May 8, 2007 hey . welcome to a whole new family. I bet there is not one single skydiver/base jumper here who on there first jump (not tandem) that once they got in the door & looked down wasn't thinkin "oh shit". I was. then I checked in checked out gave a count an away we went.....first jump jitters all gone. talk with your instructors, remember your training, don't worry about being perfect, arch arch arch. then pull & let out a huge WOOOOOOP! once yer under canopy!!! blue skies! have a blast & prepare to be real cash poor LOL
skydave238 0 #4 May 8, 2007 Quote Any advice on getting over the leap of faith jitters? Just go do it! Nervousness or fear that builds up in side you to jump is something that will never go away. Fear keeps you alive. Eventually as you jump more often you'll be able to manage that fear, but it will never fully go away. Hell, i still get nervous everytime I jump! And the day that I dont, ill stop jumping. As soon as you're not scared to do something, you start taking chances and doing reckless things, which may end up getting you seriously hurt. So embrace the "jitters"! DaveReady...Set...Go..! SkydiveSwakop

PikzeeVikzen 0 #6 May 8, 2007 Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! I think I'm quite a bit calmer now knowing that everyone gets the jitters. I told myself (and my friends) that if they ever completely go away I won't be jumping. Most of my friends think I'm nutso. The ones that don't, have tasted the sky. javascript:%20addTag(':)') Thanks again!! I hope to have an update Friday. Here's hoping the weather behaves!! ~Kami~ I'm the twist that turns your key.... floridadiver81 0 #7 May 8, 2007 I had the same thing...as im sure most everyone on here has had at some point. Its psycological. You ahve to force yourself to hurl your body out of the plane. Once you get past the door anxiety you will be fine. As some have stated...you should be at least a little nervous when skydiving. If you arent you need to stop jumping..lol Good luck and i hope the skies cooperate with ya!"Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! Lastchance 0 #8 May 11, 2007 Just do it. You will love it. I was never as scared in my life as I was before my first AFF jump. You will get over it. The fear will turn into respect for what you are doing. Welcome to the sport and good luck. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
