MortalWombat 0 #1 February 19, 2007 Right, hi! I'm new to all of this and i'm currently absorbing so much info it's a wonder my ears haven't popped off! Actually they have! No, not really. Although i haven't jumped *yet* I'm really loving this scene and i can't wait to get involved, meet you lovely people and have some fun! I must admit it frightens the sh*t out of me but i guess that is normal and healthy!? I'm planning to hopefully do an AFF within the next 8 weeks, down at 'Headcorn parachute Club' in Kent, England, which i attended yesterday (Saturday) with major butterflies in my tummy just watching everyone! Already i'm cruising the gear section wondering what gear i'm going to eventually buy when i get my n00b licence! I know so so little and there is so so much to learn it's really quite humbling! So anyway! Hi to all of you, especially anyone for whom Headcorn is their local DZ!! My name is Ian, and I'm super super new! The only thing stopping you is all the people that want to stop you! MortalWombat 0 #5 February 19, 2007 Hi Peej, Legs, Skymama. Thanks for the warm greets. I seem to be spending all my net time browsing this forum and the sites it links to... nice resource! I'll probably be down Headcorn the weekend after next for another look around. Damn my neck was hurting so much after looking straight up last time, i never realised how much necks weren't designed for that! Maybe it's just my neck that's affected as i managed to fracture a couple of vertibre in it a few years ago. *rubs neck thoughtfully* How often are you down there Graeme? The only thing stopping you is all the people that want to stop you! Scoop 0 #6 February 19, 2007 Hi mate, I'm new myself, been making slow progress, but Headcorn is my local club so you may see me there this summer. I rarely hang around there though. I generally jump and then go home! Been visiting other DZs too recently which is sweet part about getting your licence Have fun and enjoy your training & jumps, I did my AFF with HPC and was great Quite alot of them lurk on here so be careful who you talk about - They read but rarely participate. siddacious 0 #7 February 19, 2007 Welcome! Good luck with AFF, and don't forget to have a fun time. BTW, I know what you mean about there being lots to learn, but I think that's half the fun!A dolor netus non dui aliquet, sagittis felis sodales, dolor sociis mauris, vel eu libero cras. Interdum at. MortalWombat 0 #8 February 19, 2007 I actually never realised learning could be so much fun! There is so much but I've never found anything that i've wanted to learn about more in my life, i've been sat in front of the PC for days... it's ace! I feel like I'm 10 again, used to read nature books all the time - loved it, could have probably told you the circumference of an aardvaarks fart at one point... here's to gaining the same level of knowledge about this subject! *chinks glass* I'm looking forward to the training, just hoping i'll be able to make that final step off the plane... i imagine it to go something like this: 'that's one small step for a man... one giant leap for ARRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!' it's one of those very weird situations, for ever since i can rememebr if i've closed my eyes, especially before going to sleep, and imagined being on a tall building, then falling off i'd get that very real sensation that runs through your body from tip to toe, like when you nearly drop an expensive plate... it's horrible but nice at the same time. Am i just talking crap now? skip to the end: Headcorn's lovely, and the coffee in the cafe is bloomin excellent. The only thing stopping you is all the people that want to stop you! Legs 0 #10 February 19, 2007 Ian I am down at headcorn at least one day per week, and alternate weekends, next weekend is my skydiving weekend. Life is busy though with a 2 year old daughter and shift work. If your down there and looking for someone to chat to, you only have to ask Vicky to point me out and I'll introduce you to all the other relative newbys. (me included) there are a bunch who qualified last autumn, and a handfull currently doing RAPS (Static line progression). If you make the effort to chat to the people on the periphery they tend to welcome you into the fold. And a wet weather day at headcorn is great for training in all sorts!! I quite often stay down in the Bunk rooms on a saturday, so I can have my fill of beer without driving. At £2 a night its cheap but basic. Good luck with that AFF jump if I dont catch you before your first. Keep safeWith love in Christ
