Packing...

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I have a question that I hope you guys can answer.

What is the easiest way to start packing sport rigs? I'll pack tandems too. I packed tandems for a dz when I was 18 but that was 4 years ago and so I need to be refreshed about some of the packing techniques for that but besides that I think the question I want to know is. If I go to a new dz, a big one. such as perris, What do I need to do to start packing? I realize I should probably talk to the head rigger, but what brings confidence into you when you hire a packer?

Thanks for your feedback.

I Think I want to live at the dz during summer and Jump as much as I can pack =D

Peace

i dont know how it is in DZs like perris but i would say , know you and trust your packing abilities.

you should also consider the reaction of the local packers, i'm not sure showing up and offering pack jobs in half price will make you popular...

but i pack for myself so what do i know ;)

yeap, talking to the locals is always a good idea and usualy there's enough work than packers.
like everything, it might be tough until they get to know you and trust your pack jobs, but i'm sure it will work out B|

I would definatly start packing at Perris. Maybe you could do $5 dollar pack jobs like most other DZ's.

Perris charges $6 for some reason.

The Perris packers have to pay "rent" to be able to pack there.

You may want to ask around about that - you may not be allowed to pack unless you work for the packing stand. Don't forget, if you are not a rigger - you need to be in direct supervision of a rigger if you are not the one that will be jumping that canopy.

Hey,
Yeah, right now it's mainly me, mike (who also packs whitney and urban when it's busy) and joe. shawn and maybe stu help when it's busy. For summer when caravan comes and it is really busy we could maybe use another I would think. I don't know if it'd pay for as much jumping as you sound like you wanna do, but it would for sure help. One other thing is one of the TM daughter has been coming out learning to pack so that would maybe be another person but I'm not sure about her. You should def talk to Kev about it though. One thing too is you might want to come out soon and learn. You wouldn't want to spend the whole summer just learning and gettin fast enough to pack for caravan. But def come out. It'll be great! You need to catch back up to me with jumps boy.

Humm, not sure I would like to pack at a place like Perris?Having been packing steady now for nine months,I finally feel comfortable packing any sport rig! Some things I just learned.Like, you don't pack the "Smaller Rocketships" like the big boy parachutes. For some reason I could not figure out that once in a while a "Slammer" would occur with the smaller, faster chutes.I started asking questions,Rigger,Former builder of PD chutes. What was I doing wrong?Seems that you can rap the tail tighter on the larger chutes but,"Most Certainly Not" on the smaller ones. Now just 2 or 3 twists on small chutes,5-6 on bigger.Did You know that?
