myamyinva 0 #1 September 13, 2006 Last month I had my first jump at Skydive Orange. It was a tandem with Mike French and I have to admit ever since then that is all I can think about. Even though my husband, 5 kids coworkers and friends think I am crazy I want to do it over and over again. What is the next step? Do I do the class and then jump alone or do a few more tandems or what? I can't wait to feel the air in my face again, although I am not sure I would want to jump when its too cold outside. Any insight given would be greatly appreciated!! Amy [url]//http://www.myspace.com/amyinva
Peej 0 #2 September 13, 2006 Hey Amy, Congratulatons on your first jump and welcome to dz.com! Depending on what kind of training courses that Skydive Orange offers you have a few options open to you. Do a search in the forums for AFF - Accelerated Freefall Courses and read up on them. You could lso try Skydive Orange's website for info. Essentially an AFF course is a 10 jump course with instructors where they actully teach you to skydive in the air. After an intensive ground school session you will be taken up to jump altitude, somewhere between 11000 and 14000 ft and you and two instructors will leave the aircraft together and through a series of tasks that you will have to perform they will begin to teach you to skydive. Good luck! PJ Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

Peej 0 #4 September 13, 2006 Indeed Skymama! My tandem passengers often get a huge fright when we open the door for thf irst time and they are exposed to all the wind and noise, having done this once or twice will better prepare you for your first AFF. DavidST 0 #5 September 13, 2006 I just did my first jump at skydive orange a couple of weeks ago myself so i know exactly what you are feeling. Orange offers both AFF and Static line training towards your A license. The website is really good with the details about each of these courses progression and cost. Niether of them is cheap though and USPA requires 25 jumps for your A. here is a link to the page http://www.skydiveorange.com/repeat.htm#a-h Hopefully i'll see you there Blue Skies DaveAs a general rule, the better it felt when you said it, the more trouble it's going to get you into. I remember oh so long ago, when I did my first tandem. When we got to the door Tom started doing the count by rocking back and fourth I was yelling hold on hold on! ...of course he couldn't hear me, and out we went! myamyinva 0 #7 September 14, 2006 Thanks so much for the info, I went to the website and am going to go ahead and schedule my next jump before it gets too cold using the AFF course.
myamyinva 0 #8 September 14, 2006 I am going to ask about having the tandems incooperated, I am a little nervous not about the jumping but more so that I will forget something important when it is completly me responsible for it.
myamyinva 0 #9 September 14, 2006 That's cool, who was your instructor? I had Mike French and he was awesome... Everyone there was cool though, I got a good vibe from the place. Also after researching seems they have a better safety record that Skydive Virginia from what I could find on the internet. Are you going to take the AFF course? mangledspoon 0 #10 September 14, 2006 Don't worry about forgetting something important, that's why they have two people holding onto you, because everyone is nervous and experiencing sensory overload their first time! Hehe, I did AFF1 for my first jump, and as soon as I got out of the door I spent at least 10 seconds going "Oh, I've actually left the plane." "Holy crap this is awesome!" "Ooh look at the pretty world." etcetera etcetera, and didn't even notice the first time my instructor tapped me to remind me to do my practice ripcord pulls ... Once she reminded me again though my training kicked in and I remembered to do everything. So you're not totally alone! You'll be right And if you do for whatever reason forget to pull, they're right beside you to make sure it does get pulled, even if that means them pulling for you. DavidST 0 #11 September 14, 2006 I jumped with Shane he was pretty cool although they where doing back to back loads (trying to get in a break in clouds) so he was real busy trying to get me and the girl behind me set up. I'll be doing AFF in the spring i just can't afford it until then.As a general rule, the better it felt when you said it, the more trouble it's going to get you into.
