airdvr 210 #1 May 7, 2004 Last w/e the winds were marginal but jumpable. Made 1 jump before I decided it was too windy for my 26' LoPo. The spot put us just off the W end of the runway and if I'd have needed my reserve I would have been in the next county, not too mention prolly in some trees or power lines. So, its time to upgrade to a square reserve. I saw a couple of Raven 2 that were about 180's I think...but aren't these F111? I need some solid advice on what reserve to get. I'm jumping a Tri 190 loaded at 1.3.Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
PhreeZone 20 #2 May 7, 2004 Well.. you are going to spend some money to upgrade the Racer to get a new PC with a freebag instead of the current PC that you have on that LoPo. What riser setup is on that Racer (I take it that its a 4 riser and not a 2)? What is the reserve riser length? Do the riser covers cover all the way to the links? What is the pack volume size on the reserve in cubic inches? Honestly call Jumpshack. They have great service. They might decide they cost and work might be too much and recommend updating the container to a newer one. That container is quickly approaching the limit that a lot of riggers start to refuse to pack older gear at.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
sid 1 #3 May 7, 2004 having spent the winter working for Jump Shack (tell me again why I came back up here to the cold....wet...oh, sorry drifting there) and being the owner of a new Racer I can understand why you're loathe to let your old one go. However, the new 2K3 is every bit as comfortable as the classic Racer and I'm sure if you call Nightjumper (Mike) at Jump Shack he'll hook you up with a great price for a 2K3 and an Angelfire reserve (yes! Jump Shack make an awesome reserve now too!) A 20 year old rig is a 20 year old rig. It's like saying "Can you build a car round this engine for me?" Might be time to upgrade dude...........Pete Draper, Just because my life plan is written on the back of a Hooter's Napkin, it's still a life plan.... right? riggerrob 643 #4 May 7, 2004 Raven 2 reserves have 218 square feet of fabric. They are made of F-111 fabric like the other 99% of reserves. Don't worry, new F-111 (less than 70 jumps) flies the same as ZP fabric, much like your Triathlon. Depending on the vintage of your 26 LoPo - and its pack volume (LoPo fabric or F-111 fabric?) - it may be easier to stuff a Raven 1 (180 square feet) into that container. Just be careful about wing loading. Even Precision Aerodynamics admits that Ravens fly like @#$%! when loaded more than 1.4 pounds per square foot. Some of the newer reserve designs (Amigo, PD, R-Max, Smart, Tempo, etc.) are designed for heavier loadings, but frankly, you are best off loading your reserve about the same as your Triathlon. That way you will not have to rethink much when you find yourself hanging under your reserve. I applied that same logic when I bought an Amigo 172 reserve and a Sabre 170. Since your Racer was sewn about the same as Racer was TSOed for square reserves, ask your rigger if it has steering guide rings set up for a square reserve. A Master Rigger can easily sew on the rings, but it will cost you a few extra dollars, along with a new freebag (direct from Jump Shack aka. Parachute Labs aka. the Racer factory). Note that early Racers have very short risers.
