MOA 0 #1 August 17, 2005 Hi everyone I just wanted to say hi..... I have no skydives under my belt .....yet.....but will soon. (trying to get rid of some old debt before I build up new debt ) I'm a Scuba Diving...Rock climbing...ex motorcycle racer who lives in Orange County, CA but I am not an adrenaline junkie (I hate that term because it is usually accompanied to un-educated crazy people and one of those I am not). I'm just here to soak up as much info as I can before my first jump and wanted to say thanks in advance for any dumb questions I ask Thanks, Nick
Mike111 0 #2 August 17, 2005 Hey, WelcomeWhat do you plan to do for your first jump? a tandem? Have fun dude, mike
MOA 0 #3 August 17, 2005 Thanks, I havn't made up my mind about that yet......the places by me have a tandem or a jump with 2 instructors options for the AFF level 1. I have been reading some posts here and it seems as though most people recommend the tandem so you don't get a sensory overload on your first jump. I think I'm about a month away from my first jump. So I still have some time to think about it. Personally my biggest fear would be going by myself so if I did a tandem first my second jump would prolly be harder. Any input? Mike111 0 #4 August 17, 2005 IMHO, (in other words, take this with a pinch of salt - only a student), the tandem would be a very good way to start if youre have any uncertainties - and is the bets fun - nothing to worry about. AFF level1 is great but much more demanding than a tandem, - a tandem would certainly alleviate door fear as you would know roughly what to expect - in other words, you would have experienced the fear once before so you would know what it felt like it. The best advice though i could give you would be to ring up your chosen DZ - explain your fears and what you wanna do and what you think and see what they recommend. Not only are they the experts but they are the ones who would be training you so their advice would probably the most sound. Good luck ,man, Im assuming you plan to take the sport up fully? MOA 0 #5 August 17, 2005 QuoteIm assuming you plan to take the sport up fully? Unless I have trouble or really hate it. I figure taking the AFF level 1 is $100.00 more then showing up and doing a tandem and gives hours more instruction so I don't mind paying the extra money. Thanks for the info, Nick

I'm not following...why do you think your second jump will be harder after doing a tandem? She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
MOA 0 #8 August 17, 2005 QuoteI'm not following...why do you think your second jump will be harder after doing a tandem? I think my only fear (at the moment) is having to do it (pull and land) by myself and if someone else is doing it for me I wont be nervous. So do I want to get it over on my first or second jump is what I am debating.
skymama 37 #9 August 17, 2005 I think you will be more calm if you do a tandem first because you will know what a jump entails. That's just my experience, you may be different! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
