Remster 30 #1 April 26, 2004 Hey Neptune users, I was just wondering what your recent experience with them are these days. Havent seen lots of post about new SW updates, so it looks like its pretty stable now. Am I right?Remster
JayFitz164 0 #2 April 26, 2004 I bought a Neptune a while back and it had the older version software on it. It was unreliable. I sent it to alti-2 and they installed the new software, gave me new batteries, put in in the test chamber, and included a newer version wrist attachment all at no charge. I have put 20 or so jumps on it since I got it back (the turn around time was very fast, like less than a week) and it is spot on. It is very cool and I am glad that I have one. Alti-2 has rock solid customer service. A buddy of mine just bought one and he is equally impressed with the unit. Note: your local dealer should be able to update the software. My dealer was not set up to do the update so I shipped it to Alti-2.

There may be one very close to me, but before he agrees to be one, he wants to know how the product is doing.Remster
ianmdrennan 2 #5 April 26, 2004 I have had ZERO issues with the neptune for some time now. The only issue that I am aware of anyone experiencing are some errors (sporadic) with extended freefall logging times when doing Hop n' Pops (and the folks @ alti-2 continue to refine and work hard at this). The jump is registered but the freefall time may be incorrect. I have just upgraded a local crew dogs neptune and am interested in seeing if the 2.1.2 revision helps tweak this. Other than that there are no issues that I am aware of and I've been using my neptune as a visual for quite a while now. Another jumper has been using his as an audible and has no complaints at all. He's been very happy with the unit. Hope this helps. Blue skies IanPerformance Designs Factory Team
nicknitro71 0 #6 April 26, 2004 version 2.1.2 (the latest) is flawless. I did birdman jumps, H&P from 3K, and anything in between. It's all good.Memento Audere Semper
Spizzzarko 0 #7 April 26, 2004 The only problem I have with mine is when I'm the main side JM on an AFF dive, and the student decides he wants to deploy my Neptune instead of his main. Yes I dirt dove what not to grab on to, but I guess he forgott that at pull time!!! I will admit the wrist velcro thingy is pretty strong, because this guy was pulling on it like mad. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about... When the Main JM on an AFF dive has a harness grip his or her altimeter is usually sits right next to the Pilot chute. I have had this happen a couple of times so I decided to start dirt diving what not to pull on with the student, but every now and then it happens. nicknitro71 0 #8 April 26, 2004 In that case you can just put the Neputune on the other wrist and flip the screen.Memento Audere Semper

SkydiveNFlorida 0 #10 April 26, 2004 I really like the unit, though I do have a few small gripes. For several jumps, it wasn't logging my exit altitude properly, I was losing a couple thousand feet before it started to log. That was on linked hd exits (I can't fly hd by myself yet). I had the software updated, and haven't noticed any of those problems since. I rode the plane down recently and it logged it as a jump. My boyfriend's protrack did not do that. Not a huge deal, can be erased, but odd that it logged it, especially since the plane was NOT very fast, lol! Also, sometimes I *think* that the ff time is off, I had one jump where I exited 14k+ feet deployed at 3k, and it logged a 42 second jump. I am just not all that fast, so I don't think that's right... but, maybe I may be wrong. I just ordered a protrack so will be verifying one against the other now. I do really like the unit as a visual alti... very accurate! I'll update soon on how things check out between my unit and the protrack I ordered. Also, the service is excellent. Roger and his team are top notch! Angela.
EDYDO 0 #11 April 27, 2004 I use my Neptune as a visual and my Pro Track as an audible, so I can compare the two. They are nearly always within 100 feet of each other on exit and deployment. The Pro Track (I think) shows more seconds per dive and that could add up. I can't be sure which is the most accurate. Freefall time is often 4 or 5 seconds less per jump on the Neptune. It does hop and pops just fine, but I am careful to go 6 seconds so my pro track will record. I know what the pro track does with under 6 second freefalls, but I don't know what the Neptune does. The real benefit for me with the Neptune as a visual is small size and light weight. Oh yes, the batteries are lasting much longer, I must have gotten some old ones at first. I have had this happen a couple of times so I decided to start dirt diving what not to pull on with the student, but every now and then it happens. I normally use mine as an audible and as a wrist mount a couple of times. My Alti-2 with the glow face is my primary visual altimeter and has been PRCP'd more than a few times. I've since gone to taking a leg grip instead even though I've trained what "not" to pull during the dirt dive. Yep, I'm very happy with my Neptune and it does eveything my ProTrack did and more. I also like the fact that I work with Cajones, the local Field Rep. Alti-Bob is also on staff to calibrate the visual Alti2 altimeters.
