rainfire 0 #1 March 2, 2005 hi i have just finished my AFF levels 1-8 and am hooked, terrified under the canopy though, when i am in freefall though i am not even aware of the ground. Also seem to misjudge my landing spot. Skydiving has stolen my thoughts, appetite and dreams. I simply love it and would love advise from anyone ... like they said, i know now why the birds sing and i look up at the sky through new eyes ... Peej 0 #2 March 2, 2005 Yo B! Was good to have met you this weekend and now welcome to dropzone.com Congrats on finishing 1-8 too, that rocks. Do a search in the Safety and Training forum, i'm sure there have been lots of people looking for the same advice as you are. Personally i think the canopy stuff will come with time, just focus on getting yourself down safely for now (i watched you stand up most of your landings this wknd, that's a good start!). Also try studying some more pictures of JSC from the air, that might help you orientate yourself a little earlier. Feeblemind 1 #4 March 2, 2005 I am the oppisite, I am very aware of the ground cause I fall like a metor (133 MPH avg. Fall rate (but learning to slow down) but I love the canopy work, so far it has been my favorite part. My coach is pleased with my accuracy on landings (I guess all those years flying R/C aircraft was not a complete waste of time). There is alot of info in the forums like Skymamma said, you just gotta dig it out. rainfire 0 #5 March 7, 2005 hey pj, shot for the mail, very cool hearing from you, just to let you know i passed levels 9-10 this weekend. the spinning test was awesome and i went for it like a madman, the hop and pop was a little scary and i was very unstable and i am forgetting to arch when i pull, but the canopy control is getting there. Still petrified underneath it. I landed on my feet again and not in the tall grass!!! like you said it will come with experience. Very eager to do my ISP. I have officially lost my soul to skydiving. Hope to see you soon Skyhooked

ripcords 0 #8 March 11, 2005 OK you have raised my curiousity. What is the spinning test?
Peej 0 #9 March 11, 2005 It's the AFF level where the student intentionally goes unstable. It's been a while since i did AFF but if i remember correctly in South Africa the AFF-I briefs you to (in a belly to earth position) grab one foot and bring the opposite hand up to the forehead in a kind of solute. It makes you go unstable and essentially spin. Hence everyone refers to it as the spin test Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
