keeping my sanity

hello all...finally signed up(I have taken a temporary desk job :(and this site helps keep my sanity[:/])...

usually jump in taupo but have also been to byron bay and empuria...

thanks for the dose of sanity all and look forward to lots of good conversations...take it easy and until we meet ;)

I have small mirrors mounted on both sides of my computer monitor. Helps me to see someone passing by or coming up behind me. Lots of people in my dept has a mirror of some sort. ;)

You might be surprised at what things in life have been influenced by deaf culture:

Baseball's use of strike signals by the umpire - Dummy Hoy was a deaf player way back in the 1900's in the major leagues. He helped start the tradition of calling a strike just so he would know what pitch it was.

Football huddle - started by Gallaudet University (the only Deaf University in the world) in Washington D.C. The football team started gathering in a tight circle to hide the sign language from the other team when calling out the play.

Those are just two examples. There are many more... :)
