Shortcut8 0 #1 June 30, 2004 Im John and I want to skydive. Now I dont want to jump out of a plane strapped to another person. I want to jump out by myself so I can tumble around during the freefall. So where do I start? How much will it all cost and how much time will it take till I can jump solo?
SkiD_PL8 0 #2 June 30, 2004 You will not "tumble around durring the freefall" on your first jump no matter which form of progression you pick. The closest you will come is the AFF program and even then it should be a belly to earth freefall the whole time unless you screw it up. The other route you can take is static line progression which will get you to your first freefall around jump 6. Greenie in training.
skymama 37 #3 June 30, 2004 Welcome to the forums. You can also check out this page on the site. It helps to explain the different ways to get started in skydiving. How quickly you progress to jumping solo all depends on how quickly you pass your student levels. You'll need a good bit of cash (or credit) to get started. A few thousand will cover your training and gear you need once you get off student status. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
AggieDave 6 #4 June 30, 2004 Your best bet is to go to your local dropzone and talk to some of the instructors there. Watch the skydiving and ask to watch any video of the jumps going on. QuoteI want to jump out by myself so I can tumble around during the freefall. That's not safe by any stretch of the imagination. Stability is the first goal of skydiving. That's like saying I want to learn to drive so I can spin my car out on the highway when its wet. Like I said, go and learn about the sport, hang around the DZ and then go do a jump. I think you'll find its not like you expected but its better then you ever hoped. Oh, welcome to our online dropzone.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Brodes 0 #5 July 1, 2004 Yeah tumbling isn't exactly tumbling up there. OK that made no sense, but my whuffo friends are the same they dont believe it's hard at all to control yourself in freefall. What I ment was like swooping around and experimenting what body position did what at that kinds of speed. On a side note. When I was first learning to drive I was tought how to spin a car in a controled manner... oversteer is fun, and it was also on a highway and it was raining.
