rychian 0 #1 February 4, 2004 hey humans, rychian here, came back to this planet for the jumping, havent succeeded yet. plan on making a carreer out of it, havent graduated from 1st grade yet, 56 under my belt still no liscence, not one jump last year, not one extra penny. probably will have to start all over. if i think about it too much, ill shed a tear. have crosswind, will dream daily. watched the tape so many times, im surprised it still plays. have memorized every word, every movement, every scene. only have one question. la bennion. la bennion, la bennion. have always wanted to live on an island in the pacific or indian oceans, up pops la bennion, and i cant find a single link on the net for it. anyone out there know anything about this place, what country owns it, where it is. i cant even find it on a map. any help would be great. hope to hear from you guys. peace
skymama 37 #2 February 4, 2004 Welcome to the forums! Can't say I've heard of the islands you're looking for though. Why is it that you have 56 jumps and no license yet?She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

rychian 0 #4 February 4, 2004 hello Skymama, thanks for replying. umm, the island. its featured in crosswind by patrick passe. i dont speak french and cant understand on my copy where this island is. luic jean albert jumps a mountain range with a wingsuit. i cant stop thinking about this footage and only wish the producers would have put the entire run unedited in the video. as for my jump record, well the dz is an hour away, i dont have a drivers liscence or vehicle, or more importantly money for jumping, rentals, my own chute and related equiptment, therefore cant even feel good about hanging out at the dz with nothing to contribute. plus i have found the dz to be a little clickish. have yet to find a good friend at the dz, or an instructor with the time to guide me into a liscence. cant afford the pack like a pro video tape so i havent a clue how to pack a chute, as i dont want to rely on my own memory until ive studied a decent book or tape on the subject, given the danger of doing it wrong. my first jump at my 2nd dz(#22) was a high speed pilot chute in tow malfunction due to an incorrect routing of the bridle(as best as they will explain it) and it kindof shook into me the importance of packing correctly everytime, so ive only made 56 in 3 years mainly because i cant afford to jump and dont have a liscence cause i cant pack. i think ive made most of the requirements otherwise, but last year was very bad for me financially and ill probably have to go through a static line course again. jeez i hope i didnt sound like a whiner. would like nothing more than to jump all day everyday. peace
peacefuljeffrey 0 #5 February 4, 2004 Rychian, welcome! I'm curious about your pilot-chute-in-tow malfunction, because the idea of those scares me a bit and I am not entirely sure what is the best way to remedy such a situation. Obviously you're still here, so something worked out right. What did you do to fix it? ---Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" rychian 0 #6 February 6, 2004 hello peaceful jeffery, as i said earlier, it was my first jump at a new jumpsite(for me) and my 22 jump, so it was agreed that i would pay for a jumpmaster to attend and he saved my butt from having to open my reserve. we jumped together and i followed his hand comands for an otherwise placid jump. at 5000 i waived off and pulled, 5 seconds later, with the jump master still holding on to my side, i started wondering why i hadnt opened yet, looked over my shoulder i saw the pilot chute suspended about 6 feet over my back. I made the decision to cut away and as my hand went for the handle, the main opened, i stopped, the jump master kept going. i watched him until he opened, looked up at my chute, said some thanks to all involved, and the rest went fine. when i landed, he was waiting for me and explained that the bridle was routed wrong and sinched the flaps closed, he manually opened my main by pulling the pin himself. unfortunatly, my story has no value in teaching someone how to solve this situation yourself, other than to have more than one person do a pin check, or only get pin checks from qualified instructors, or follow through with your emergency procedures. 1 more second and i would have reached the cut away handle. peace friends
Raefordite 0 #7 February 6, 2004 Dude - what a story! Sounds like you have a good instructor. Try learning to pack. It will take much time and effort, but can be done. Perhaps showing the effort and time will help you break through that "click" you feel. If not, find a new DZ, sleep in your car, bring a bar of soap, toothbrush, a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter and you are good to go!
