Nataly 38 #1 January 19, 2004 Hi there everyone! I finally decided to sign up to this forum since I've found it so useful for all the questions I was too afraid to ask.. I'm new to the sport (only 10 jumps), but I'm desperately trying to get down to Sebastian or Zephyrhills within the next couple of days to jump, jump, and jump some more! I'm sure the trip will be worthwhile! I'm going crazy getting everything in order.. Figuring out all the details.. Planning it on the fly.. Anyone know the best way to get there from the Airport in Tampa??!! Any words of wisdom to help me pick between the two dropzones?? Whew! My head is spinning from excitement!!"There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

Nataly 38 #4 January 19, 2004 Oh.. I don't know? If anyone could pick me up, I'd be happy to pay--it would save me from having to rent a car for a week. So Orlando is closer to Sebastian? How much of a differance?"There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
skymama 37 #5 January 19, 2004 If you flew into Orlando, you'd be more centrally located to hit both dz's, but you'd definitely need a car. I've never driven straight from the airport to either dz, but I would guesstimate OIA is probably around an hour to Sebastian, maybe a bit more to Z-hills. Don't forget that the tunnel is in Orlando also. It's a good way to get extra training. Just make sure you book time as soon as you know your schedule. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Nataly 38 #6 January 19, 2004 Cool! Thanks! I'm going insane trying to plan all of this!! I just found out yesterday I have about two weeks of leave and I just got back from Bosnia so I need to do something for me, you know? peacefuljeffrey 0 #9 January 27, 2004 Hey, if you twist your plans a bit, you could fly into Palm Beach (PBI), five minutes from where I live, stay over with me and my cat (I'll take the couch and you can have the bed) and we'll go out to Skydive South Beach (at sunny Lake Okeechobee in the middle of sugar-cane country) all weekend long! I go out every single week, always on Sunday and sometimes on Saturday. Let me know. My house is messy but I cook really well, and I like to play host when I can. Skydivers are always welcome. I'm a 54-jump newbie with a not-yet-faxed-in A-license, still very much hot for the sport and for learning new stuff. Guess what -- I sit-flew this weekend, in my very own new used rig!! ---Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" DaMan 0 #10 January 28, 2004 I didn't see any dates...when were you arriving - my wife and I drive past Tampa on our way to Z-hills (if it's on the same day we are going up, we might be able to get you a lift). If you decide to rent a car, PM me for directions from the Tampa airport...see you there!Z-Flock 8 Discotec Rodriguez Too bad weapons grade stupidity doesn't lead to sterility. firstime 0 #11 January 28, 2004 Hey say hello to Willie T for me please. Larry Fingers SDLI PS: did he buy a pair of sneakers yet??
peacefuljeffrey 0 #12 January 29, 2004 Larry, Willie has been jumping in sneakers lately, but I couldn't tell you whether they're newly purchased or not. I think money's been tight lately, what with the DZ just getting its start here and all. (Skydive South Beach, operated by Tecumseh DZO Ron.) I think I've been the only hardcore barefoot jumper out there lately even though this is FLORIDA. We've had a little "cool" weather and Willie went for the sneakers for a couple of weeks. His back was bothering him this weekend so I'm not even sure if he jumped during the SoBe Boogie. A few other jumpers go barefoot but of all of them, I'm the only one I am certain has not put shoes on to skydive since I did my AFP in August. I'll tell Willie you said hello. ---Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
crawford 0 #13 January 29, 2004 Welcome Nataly, Now for the advice! Don't sweat the small stuff, Fly to Tampa--Go to Zhills, excellent people there. Two: Just got back from Bosnia, Congrats and thanks. A skydiving trip is definitely what you need. But don't cancel out Skydive Alabama. Sure it is colder than Zhills, but that is all relative anyway, isn't it? Anyway, no matter where you go, you will have a great time, there is nothing better than a bunch of hooligan skydivers to make a person smile and feel better knowing that there are people out there worse off than you! (*that would be a joke, please, no hate mail, I love you all, I'm just one of those that is really bad off ) "Sure, those Golf Carts may look all warm and fuzzy, but they WILL take a chunk out of your ass!" Nataly 38 #14 February 3, 2004 Wow! I just got back from ZHills.. It was *AWSOME*!!! Thanks to everyone for their advice, and thanks for the offers (didn't get them until now, but still appreciate the gestures). I am sooo glad I went, and met some amazing people :) With the help of numerous people (especially Paul Meagher), I managed to get my A-Licence *and* get initiated into the Pink Mafia! peacefuljeffrey 0 #15 February 3, 2004 Glad you had a good time! WOW! You got your A and also are now in the Pink Mafia? Busy weekend, ey?! If you come back and want that ride to SoBe, shoot me a message some time, 'cause the offer stands. We had a beautiful day for jumping today, after the weird noon-time fog lifted! I got to jump the new Monkey's Fist handle I made myself so it was a good day for me, even though I had to leave for work soon afterward. Peace, ---Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Nataly 38 #17 February 5, 2004 Heee heeeee!!! Cool of you to write me a note I had such a ball.. Now I'm back to work, and it's kind of a bummer.. I'm one of two qualified techs, and that means I'm buzy, busy, busy.. I have to do the work of 5 people *and* train the newbies.. I've been getting all my shit together and giving it away to the Salvation Army... When I get down to two suitcases, I'm taking off I think I'll make the USA my first stop and I'll visit one dropzone at a time.. Then off to Europe, then Australia, et cetera, et cetera.. I want to learn to rock-climb, and surf, and paraglide, and then who knows?! I'm going to live the dream, baby!!!! PS: Melanie has spiced up the story a little.. I was up way higher than her because of her uber-arch, and when she finally caught up to me, I held on to her for dear life, and somehow managed to grab the barbie from her while I flipped onto my back (no, this was not on purpose!!).. She then moved back so we could do some turns--probably the only thing I did right!!! Well, it's like I keep saying.. If you can't be good, you might as well be good for a laugh!!!
