New Brit guy needs some help!

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I've been lurking in these forums for a while now, they're great. It's good to read the posts of those that have just jumped and get a sense of the excitement!! I've wanted to skydive for a long while now but realised I better pull my finger and get round to it! However, I've got a bit of a problem that's stopping me!

The problem being my weight. I'm about 21 stones (300lbs). I'm 6' 2", take plenty of exercise, yeah I've got an inch or two to lose around the waist (but who hasn't) but I'm not obese. I'm just stocky/well built!! I'm a rugby player so you can imagine my frame!

Anyway, here in the UK you need to be about 16 stones (220lbs) to be able to do AFF. I've visited a couple of DZ's and I get the impression that there's no way that I could jump unless at the right weight (BPA rules/insurance etc)! Does anyone know of anyway I could do AFF in the UK at all?

I've read about big fella's in the US using converted tandem gear to jump. Why can't this be done here?

I'd appreciate any help/diet tips!!

Thanks!

Howdo, at Hibaldstow (30 miles from york) there are a few big fellas. I think they did the wraps course (static line progression). I know they have one rig that would be suitable for your weight. I think the main is a 320 and I have seen a few large people using it.

Have you rang Hibaldstow, aka Target skysports?

If you are adamant you want to do AFF then speak to Chris Miller, contact details are in Dropzones (clicky above) and Fall from the sky.

Best of luck.

Thanks. Yeah, I've been to Hibaldstow. I spoke to the CCI there. He showed me a form with a height/weight chart on it showing what the weight limit is for your particular height.

It seemed quite clear that they need to stick to it, which I've no problem with, just doesn't help my case much!

I think if I want to do AFF in the UK I need to get stuck into cabbage soup for the forseeable future!!

Cheers!
